Russian President Vladimir Putin today signed a decree appointing a new Russian ambassador to the United States of America. Anatoly Antonov is appointed to the post of ambassador, which was previously held by Sergey Kislyak. Earlier, Anatoly Antonov (from 2011 to 2016 years) served as Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, and then (from December 2016) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

To appoint Anatoly Ivanovich Antonov as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and as a permanent observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington.
From the biography of Anatoly Antonov:
He was born in 1955 in Omsk. In 1978, he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs). From the same year he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1984, he graduated from the MGIMO postgraduate program. He has the degree of Doctor of Political Sciences, as well as the degree of candidate of economic sciences. Speaks two foreign languages: English and Burmese. He has numerous state awards, including the Order of Alexander Nevsky and a medal for the return of the Crimea. Anatoly Antonov has been under sanctions from the EU, Canada and Ukraine since 2015.
