Open Day at the Dzemgi airfield

11

August 12th to celebrate Air Day fleet Russia at the Dzemgi airfield in Komsomolsk-on-Amur hosted an open day. Guests on its territory were hosted by the 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment. This aviation the unit was formed in 2001 as a result of the merger of the 60th Air Defense Fighter Aviation Regiment with the 404th Tallinn Aviation Order of Kutuzov XNUMXrd Class Regiment. The reorganization undertaken during the next stage of "reform", the command of the Ministry of Defense then officially explained the desire to increase the combat effectiveness and controllability of the Air Force units. In fact, this was due to the fact that in the aviation regiments there was a banal lack of fighters, and it was considered too costly to maintain several regiments of incomplete composition.

The airfield Dzemgi is shared by the 23-iap and KnAAZ. The first I-16 fighters appeared on the airfield in the distant 1939 year, and since then the fighter air regiment has been protecting the Far Eastern sky. Read more about aviation history Komsomolsk-on-Amur can be here: Komsomolsk Aviation.

In the past, aviation holidays held jointly by factory workers and the military were held at the Dzyomgi airdrome. This year the event was organized by the command of the flight unit, which affected the scenario and the scale of the holiday. This time there were no demonstration flights, and the exhibition row of aircraft was very modest.

Let's start in order. The gates of the aviation regiment opened for everyone at 10 in the morning local time. Not far from the entrance to the military unit, visitors were greeted by airplanes that once were in service with the 60 th air defense system: the Su-15TM and Su-27П interceptors installed on the "eternal station".

Su-15 interceptor fighters for a long time were one of the pillars of the USSR air defense. The Su-15 appeared on the Dzomgas in 1969, and although the 60-iap became the head of the Su-27, the interceptors were very similar in their outlines to the missiles that were used in Komsomolsk somewhere before 1990. The night flights were especially impressive when the Su-15TM literally stuck into the night sky in the afterburner, accompanied by streams of flame hitting from the nozzles of the engines. I must say that under the curtain of their career, these cars flew very actively. From time to time experienced pilots carried out interceptors with dizzying overruns of Amur, which were hardly suitable for maneuverable air combat.

Sioux 15TM

The first Su-27 entered 60-iap in 1985 year. The pilots quickly mastered the new car, which, with its maneuverable characteristics and weapon capabilities, was strikingly different from the Su-15. It was not by chance that 60-th Iap was the first to receive new fighters, the proximity of the aircraft factory where Su-27 was built, made it possible to promptly troubleshoot and deal with "childish sores." The official adoption of the Su-27 into service took place in August 1990, when all the main observations identified during the military tests were eliminated. In service with the 60 iap were Su-27P, adapted to the requirements of the air defense forces.

Su-27P

The planes installed on the "eternal parking" was provided free access. This was especially appealing to children, although many adults did not stand aside, because the majority do not have the opportunity to touch the aviation history every day. We must pay tribute to the command of the regiment, who managed to keep and minimally restore the interceptor Su-15, which had been decommissioned long ago.

Particular interest among non-aviation visitors was caused by the P-27 and P-27 mass-size rockets suspended from Su-73P with radar and thermal homing heads.

Further along, the visitors were met on the parade ground by representatives of the military unit who told everyone about the possibility of serving under the contract, as well as for some reason the employees of one of the banks.

A large number of visitors accumulated inside the building complex simulator. Particularly persistent patient having defended a long line could try themselves in the role of a fighter pilot. Especially delight, of course, caused the boys.

Within walking distance from the simulator is a bomb shelter. After the simulator for guests were opened several rooms on the first floor of the educational building.

In the class of pre-flight training, fresh posters were hung up especially for visitors, some of which contained frankly outdated or unreliable data.

Not far from the entrance to the taxiway there is a brass band. Nearby, anyone could try the soldier’s porridge from the field kitchen.

Behind the musicians are visible factory parking aircraft, where there is quite variegated and different in the years of construction of the composition of the winged cars. On the territory of the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur there are: Mi-8 helicopters, Tu-154 passenger aircraft, An-12 transport aircraft, C-80 and An-2 transport aircraft, Be-103 hydroplanes, training Su-17UMXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX series Su-3C fighters. Separately in the eastern sector are the new Sukhoi Superjet 35 airliners.

On the taxiway of the airfield, the public showed the following: Su-17UM3, Su-30М2, Su-27СМ and Su-27UB. "Sparky" Su-17UM3 officially removed from service and used until recently by factory pilots to carry out training flights. Perhaps it was the last aircraft of this type operated in Russia. The proximity of the manufacturer and the presence of a large stock of spare parts made it possible to maintain them in flight condition. Now these honored cars are no longer flying, but several copies of the Su-17UM3 are still stored on the factory site.

The huge excitement among the visitors was caused by the possibility to sit for a short time in the cabins of the Su-30М2 and Su-27UB. For this, people were ready to stand a long line in the heat. Observance of the order and security measures around the aircraft exposed for viewing together with the military personnel of the aviation regiment were monitored by military police.

At the end of December 2015, the Su-35С 23-iap fighters were the first in the Russian Federation Airborne Forces to be included in the air defense forces on duty. Prior to this Far Eastern borders guarded by about a hundred Su-27SM, Su-30M2 and MiG-31, the available as part of 22-IAP (airport "Central Corner" in Primorsky Krai), 23-IAP (airfield "Dzemgi Airport") in Khabarovsk the region and the aviation group formed from the remaining in the ranks of the MiG-31 fighter from the 865-th airforce KTOF.

Su-35S at the Dzyomgi airfield

The Su-35s built by 2010-2013, which are in service with the 23-iap on the Dzemgas, have a two-tone color scheme with a blue bottom and a dark gray top. This variant of painting was adopted in the times of “Serdyukovschiny” and is not used for new cars now. Attention is drawn to the fact that over the years of operation of the first production Su-35C, dark gray paint has fairly burnt out and now it does not look so impressive. According to data published in open sources, a year ago in the 23 iap there were 16 Su-27CM, 3 Su-30М2 and 24 Su-35С.

Su-35 is the pinnacle of the development of the Su-27 family. When creating a new fighter, many years of experience in operating the Su-27 were taken into account and existing modernization reserves were implemented, which made it possible to significantly increase combat capabilities. In comparison with the Su-27, the Su-35С glider has been enhanced, and the amount of fuel on board has been increased. The new fighter received a perfect information command system, a radar "Н035 Irbis" with a passive HEADLIGHT, as well as new engines AL-41Ф1 with thrust vector control.

Although the Su-35C supply contract was concluded with the RF Ministry of Defense in the 2009 year, and the first vehicles entered the combat regiment more than 5 years ago, the fighter for a long time could not realize its full combat potential due to the unavailability of the weapons provided by the project. This happened because of the short-sightedness of the former leadership of the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation, which placed an order for new guided missiles in Ukraine. To rectify the situation, hard-willed decisions and significant investments were required.

Aviation holidays held at the Dzyomgi airfield provide an opportunity to make legal photographs of aircraft, which at other times is fraught with major troubles. However, there was a soldier standing near the parking lot of the Su-35C duty officer, who informed visitors that “photography in this direction is prohibited, and if you took a photo, I ask you to remove it”. Of course, this did not cause anything but a smile for most guests. In addition, the airfield of the airfield and the parking of airplanes are perfectly visible from the windows of multi-storey residential buildings that stand close to the fence of a military unit.

However, I deliberately did not take photos of Su-35C duty officers from the perspective where they can see aircraft missiles. Although, of course, no secret of the composition of the weapons of fighters is not.

Finishing the report on visiting 23-iap on the Day of the Air Force, I would like to thank the command of the regiment that organized this event. Despite the limited scope of the holiday, he certainly was a success. People far from aviation and the armed forces were able to touch the winged combat vehicles and feel the smell of aviation kerosene, especially persistent managed to “fly” on the simulator and sit in the seat of a fighter pilot. The greatest pleasure from this was, of course, the boys. It is possible that for some of them it will be a definite impetus, after which they will decide to link their lives with aviation.

This is figurative. When I just started to fly the new Su-15 from Novosibirsk. Our post was near the dairy Radishchev-Leningrad highway. In 1970, he was removed. MiG and Yakov flights are not such an impressive sight as the Su-15x night flights. You very accurately described how it was. The second such impression was the test flights of the Su-17, when their wing angle began to change in flight. I first saw this in 1970, at a point in the Amursk region, where our ZRDN stood. Not at the right time posted this article, it was necessary to spread on Saturday. The children would be congratulated on the holiday.

          Mine, there’s even Olya.
As for the Su-35C, the composition of the armament, and everything that I think about this, I did not go into details so as not to stir up unnecessary passions.

Saw! Hello to her. It’s a pity that Zhenya is in Perm, he will probably see later.
And as for the Su-35S, you're right. I also do not like excessive emotions.
