Azerbaijani Armed Forces to be replenished with Turkish 155-mm ACS T-155 Firtina
According to AzeriDefence, MKEK (Turkey) resolved the issue regarding the 155-mm ACS engine of the T-155 Firtina. After the artillery systems with the new engine are tested, self-propelled artillery mounts will begin to flow into the armament of Azerbaijan.
It is known that in 2011 the contract with the Turkish company MKEK concerning the supply of 36 ACS T-155 Firtina to Azerbaijan, the cost of which is 200 million dollars, was blocked by the German company MTU, which refused to re-export MTU 881 Ka-500 engines to Azerbaijan. Recall that these power plants, whose power 1000 hp, installed on the ACS T-155 Firtina Turkish army. Now, AzeriDefence reports, the issue has finally been resolved, and the T-155 artillery systems will only be supplied by MKEK. On self-propelled artillery installations there will be an engine of a “very well-known company”. New artillery systems will also be equipped with the most modern guidance systems.
The Turkish-made 155-mm ACS T-155 Firtina has been in service with the Turkish army since 2004. The crew of the artillery system is five people. Combat deployment time - 30 seconds. The T-155 Firtina ACS can shoot at intervals of 15 seconds at a distance of 40 kilometers.
The T-155 Firtina has an inertial navigation system, a fire control computer, an automatic radar system for the correction and measurement of the speed of a battle projectile developed by ASELSAN. The INS is able to determine the coordinates of the target, the accuracy of which is 17,5 m.
