Iran threatens to withdraw from nuclear agreement in case of new US sanctions
42
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Iran is threatening to immediately break the nuclear agreement if Washington introduces new sanctions against Tehran.
If they [the United States] want to resort to the same methods [sanctions], then in a short period of time — not for a week or a month, but after a few days or hours — we will return to the previous situation [before the conclusion of a nuclear deal]
- quoted Rouhani Tass with reference to the agency AFP
Iran and the “six” of world powers (Russia, Great Britain, China, USA, France and Germany) 14 July 2015 reached an agreement on resolving the long-standing problem of the Iranian atom, adopting the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan, which 16 was announced to start implementing on January 2016. It provides for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran in connection with its nuclear program by the UN Security Council, the United States and the European Union. In return, Tehran pledged to limit its nuclear activities, putting it under international control.
