Small rocket ships of the 22800 project (code “Karakurt”) are multi-purpose rocket and artillery ships of small displacement of the near sea zone (according to another classification, small corvettes). They belong to the ships of the third rank. The official purpose of the ships - the conduct of hostilities in the near sea zone and participation in the tasks of peacetime. It is planned that “Karakurt”, adapted for operations on the open sea, will complement the small missile ships of the 21631 “Buyan-M” project, intended for shallow seas and large rivers (conventionally, the river-sea class).
