Day of the Air Force of Russia
On that day, in the distant 1912 year, Russian Emperor Nicholas II, by his decree, formed in Russia the first military aviation unit, which was subordinated to the General Staff. The Imperial Air Force (1910-1917) was considered one of the best fleets in the world, and for good reason. Equipment, professional pilots, effective training system. After the October Revolution, everything had to start virtually from scratch.
The Great Patriotic War dealt a serious blow to the country's air force. Because of the surprise attack by the Hitlerites (at least official reports are coming out of surprise) against our country in June 1941, more than 2 thousand aircraft were destroyed - many of them simply burned out at home-based airfields. The Soviet military aviation fleet was actually drained of blood.
Despite the heavy losses, Soviet front-line aviation was able to maintain its combat capability. In a short time managed to establish mass production of aircraft. By mid-summer 1943, Russian aviation firmly gained strategic air supremacy (photo 2). Prior to this, back in 1941, with significant problems with technical equipment, Soviet pilots departed from the territory of the Baltic states to attack Berlin. For the Nazis, those Soviet raids were a real shock. And let them not lead to significant damage, but had an important psychological effect for all aircraft and not only.
During the war years, the Soviet Air Force made about more than 3,1 thousand combat missions and caused the enemy great damage in manpower and equipment. In air battles and at airfields, 57 thousand enemy aircraft were destroyed. These are really impressive numbers.
During the war, Soviet pilots used over 600 air and about 500 "fire" rams. Air battles from the group often turned into air battles with the participation of large aviation forces. For the successful fulfillment of command missions, courage and bravery, over 200 thousand pilots were awarded orders and medals of the USSR.
After the end of the war, the Soviet government made a decision on the modernization of the air force, as now said. So, in the post-war period there was a transition from piston aviation to jet aircraft, the organizational structure of units and connections was updated. And here it is impossible not to express gratitude to the outstanding Soviet designers who forged the success of aviation.
The collapse of the USSR made its sad adjustments to the development of aviation. More precisely, about any development in 90-x it was no longer going. Began to cut - cut to the living. However, the trend was able to break. How much work and money it cost, so far no expert will give accurate estimates.
In the 2015 year, in accordance with the decree of the President of Russia, the Air Force was merged with the troops of the Aerospace Defense and made up a new type of troops - the Air Force of the Russian Federation (RF Aerospace Force).
The official reason for the creation of the VKS was voiced by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu: “The formation of the VKS by connecting the air force and the VKO troops is the best way to improve the country's aerospace defense system. This allows, first of all, to concentrate in one hands all the responsibility for the formation of a military-technical policy for the development of troops solving tasks in the aerospace sphere, secondly, due to closer integration, to increase the effectiveness of their use, thirdly, to ensure progressive development of the country's aerospace defense system.
The aerospace forces of the Russian Federation have already proved in practice their high efficiency, 30 September 2015, the VKS started combat missions in the framework of Russia's military operation in Syria.
Russia was able to ensure the successful conduct of the operation at such a remote theater of operations, and most importantly ensure the necessary logistics. The Syrian authorities say that it was Russian aviation that made it possible to change the course of military operations in Syria, which was threatened by the repetition of the Libyan scenario.
Fighting was carried out in the format of air strikes, conducting aerial reconnaissance. During the operation, the newest multifunctional fighters, such as the Su-30CM, Su-35С, and the front bombers Su-34, were used for the first time, the strategic aviation machines Tu-160 and Tu-95MS, which launched the latest X-555 and X cruise missiles -101 on objects of terrorists.
The twenty-four-hour combat mode and the high rate of strikes were a surprise to outside observers and experts, not to mention the terrorists themselves.
NATO analysts conduct combat operations of the VKS in Syria as highly efficient due to the skill of the pilots and the capabilities of the Russian aircraft. Many servicemen have been awarded high awards. Unfortunately, a number of pilots - posthumously. In March 2016, part of the air group was removed from the place of deployment in connection with the implementation of the tasks, however, even today, airplanes and the Russian Federation Air Force keep saying their weighty word in the fight against terrorism in the SAR.
Today, Russian military aviation carries out defense, strategic and reconnaissance tasks. As part of the Russian Air Force - long-range, front-line, military transport and army aviation. Timely updated weapons and military equipment.
“More than 100 units of the latest aviation technology will go to Russian aviation units in the 2017 year,” said Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Force Viktor Bondarev.
Under the State Armaments Program (2011-2020), it is planned to purchase more than 600 aircraft and 1100 helicopters for all types of Armed Forces, and so far this program has been implemented in its aviation unit sequentially.
Winged defenders of the Fatherland, engineers and designers, technicians and workers of the aviation industry have always been the epitome of courage, talent and hard work. The names of the best of them have become national and world heritage.
Air force troops are among the elite troops in Russia - by right! Happy holiday, aviation!
