As the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said on Thursday, four de-escalation zones will be deployed in Syria.

During the fifth round of talks held in early July in Astana, the issue of creating four de-escalation zones in Syria was agreed. Two of them - in the south-west of the Syrian Arab Republic and in the Eastern Guta suburb of Damascus - are already successfully operating. On July 31, regular talks were held in Cairo by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the moderate Syrian opposition. As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached on the functioning of the third de-escalation zone, north of the city of Homs
- said Konashenkov, Interfax reports.

The establishment of four de-escalation zones in Syria has been agreed.

According to him, 84 settlements with a population of more than 147 thousand people entered the third zone of de-escalation. The general noted that the Russian military police would deploy checkpoints and observation posts in this territory.

According to the agreements today, on August 3, from the local time 12 hours, moderate opposition units and government units completely stop firing from all types weapons
- said Konashenkov.

All the sick and wounded will be able to undergo treatment at a Russian military hospital or Syrian medical facilities.
- added the general. He noted that the opposition will unblock a section of the Homs-Hama highway passing through the de-escalation zone.

The general stressed that, “as in the already existing two de-escalation zones, the cessation of hostilities in the Homs zone does not apply to the formations of the ISIL and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists (banned in the Russian Federation).”
