Russia celebrates Navy Day
In the Soviet period stories This professional holiday was established by the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR and the AUCP Central Committee of 22 June 1939 of the year and was celebrated every year on July 24. On the last Sunday of July, it was postponed by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from October 1 1980, since the date of the celebration has not changed. The Day of the Navy is one of the most beloved holidays in the country, it was the same in the times of the USSR, and it remains so in modern Russia. Navy Day - is the memory of Russia of maritime glory.
Today, Russia is a great maritime power, but it was not always the case. The right to be called so the country has won thanks to the exploits of our ancestors and brilliant naval victories, which gained unfading glory of Russia and its navy. Today the Navy is the real pride of the country, our fleet has a heroic history and glorious military traditions. At the same time service in the navy at all times was considered prestigious, therefore in our country for generations there were real naval dynasties.
The creation of a regular fleet in Russia was due to the need to overcome the territorial, political and cultural isolation of the country, which at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries was the main obstacle to the social and economic development of the state. The first Russian sailing warship of the Western European type - the frigate “Eagle” - was built under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, it was launched in 1668 year. The ship, built according to the Dutch design, got its name in honor of the Russian state emblem.
However, only in October 1696, by the decision of the Boyar Duma, was the creation of the Russian fleet legally defined and the beginning of its construction. “Sea ships to be!” - such was the will of the young Russian Tsar Peter I and his closest associates. All of them were aware that without the fleet our state would not be able to make new steps in its development. As a result, shipyards located in various Russian regions began the construction of ships of all classes. Already by the spring of 1700, the 40 sailing and 113 rowing ships were launched into the water. The Azov fleet was constantly replenished with new ships. Having solved the southern problem, Peter I focused on ensuring Russia's access to the Baltic coast. He managed to solve this problem successfully during the long Northern War with the Swedes (1700-1721 years). Since then, the Russian fleet has repeatedly proved its effectiveness, and Russian sailors with honor went through all the military conflicts that have fallen to their lot.
Today, the Russian Navy, being one of the types of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, is designed to protect the interests of the country around the world, as well as its naval borders. The Russian fleet is capable of delivering nuclear strikes against enemy ground targets, destroying enemy fleet groups at bases and at sea, protecting shipping operations, assisting ground forces in land operations, landing amphibious assault forces and solving a large number of other tasks. The Russian Navy today includes surface and submarine ships, the sea aviation and coastal fleet troops (marines, coastal defense units), as well as special forces units and rear services. The operational and strategic associations of the Russian Navy are today: the Northern, Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific Fleets, as well as the Caspian Flotilla.
For the first time in modern history, the Navy Day will be celebrated with the main naval parade in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt. The main naval parade will be held in the historical part of St. Petersburg. Celebrations traditional for this day will also be held at the main naval bases of the country - in Baltiysk, Astrakhan, Vladivostok, Severomorsk, as well as in the basing points of the fleet forces. In total, 200 ships, boats and support vessels will take part in them. At the same time, residents and guests of St. Petersburg and Kronstadt 30 July will be able to see at the parade more than 60 modern combat surface and submarines of various classes and ranks, as well as 40 naval aircraft and even the “grandfather of the Russian fleet” - the famous little boat of Peter I. According to Vladimir Korolev, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, if before the ships lined up on the parade line, moored in the fairway of the Neva River, now they will pass at the given naval parade at the main naval parade.
“Even from the sight of a walking combat ship, it is often breathtaking, the parade will definitely be spectacular and dynamic,” the admiral noted. Vladimir Korolev explained that the warships would pass along the Neva River parade, and a group of naval aviation would fly over the Senate Square of St. Petersburg, on the Kronstadt raid everyone would be able to see the parade line of warships and submarines.
It is already known that all the officers and warrant officers of the parade will be dressed in the uniforms of the new model in white. Sailors and foremen serving under conscription, dress uniform has not changed much since the times of the Russian Imperial Navy. The Russian Defense Ministry has taken care to mark the parade participants with a new award: by order of the Minister of Defense of 17 in May of 2017, a commemorative medal “For participation in the Main Naval Parade” was established. After the parade is over, everyone in St. Petersburg can visit the warships and boats of the Russian fleet specially prepared for the excursions.
