The Thai government approved a request submitted by the Air Force Command to purchase additional T-50TH “Golden Eagle” combat trainer aircraft manufactured by South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), reports TSAMTO.
The new consignment will consist of 8 aircraft, the cost of which will be about $ 258 million. The contract will be signed before the end of July.
In 2015, the Air Force entered into a contract for the supply of X-NUMX's T-4TH aircraft.
“T-50TH are intended to replace the outdated L-39ZA / ART“ Albatross ”, set at the beginning of 1990. The agreement of September 2015 of the year included the option to purchase additional T-50TH UBS. Presumably, the Thai Air Force is required from 16 to 18 UBS T-50TH, ”says the publication.
T-50TH –a modified armed version of the TCF advanced flight training T-50. Representatives of KAI have previously confirmed that the aircraft will be equipped with "some weapon systems used in the version of the light combat aircraft FA-50", but will not receive communications equipment of the Link-16 standard and a number of other systems.
For KAI, the contract with Thailand was another success in the Southeast Asian region. The company has previously entered into agreements to supply the FA-12 Air Force 50 aircraft to the Philippines and 16 aircraft to Indonesia.
