Over the past week, NATO fighters performing the mission of the air police in the Baltic States, 9 once raised from the airfield to escort Russian military aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea in international space, according to News with reference to the Lithuanian Defense Ministry.
According to the information, starting from Wednesday “NATO fighter jets escorted 32 Russian aircraft, including two strategic bomber Tu-160”.
The Lithuanian defense ministry also noted that the past week "became the most intense in 2017 year" for the alliance's military personnel patrolling the Baltic region.
The release states that all flights of Russian aircraft took place on the route between the Kaliningrad region and the main part of the Russian Federation.
