In South Korea, the development of new medium-range interceptor missiles has been completed. The Yonhap news agency reported that LIG Nex1 and the Agency for Defense Development, ADD announced the successful completion of tests of Cheongung missiles and the start of their mass production, reports "Warspot"
The Cheongung guided missile can hit ballistic targets at altitudes over 20 km. The missile was developed as part of the M-SAM project and will become one of the main elements of the South Korean air defense and missile defense system (Korea Air and Missile Defense System, KAMD).
Serial production of new missiles will officially start in the near future, and by 2019, the South Korean Defense Ministry intends to carry out their full-fledged deployment. The KAMD system, covering all types of airborne threats, should be fully earned at the beginning of 2020's. ADD began to develop the Cheongung rocket in 2006, while the research was launched five years earlier (the Russian C-350 and C-400 systems were taken as the basis). Cheongung length is 4,6 m, weight is 400 kg. The missile is equipped with a homing system and hits targets with a direct hit.
