Israeli company Elbit Systems presented the kamikaze drone
The device combines the capabilities of reconnaissance drone and impact ammunition, is controlled by the operator and can stay in the air for up to two hours. When a target is identified, the operator can direct the SkyStriker at it from various angles (heavy armored vehicles can be attacked vertically, fortifications can be attacked into gaps or viewing holes).
Elbit Systems claims that thanks to the multispectral camera, the operator can hit even moving targets with high accuracy. At the same time, the electric motor of “wandering ammunition” works relatively quietly, which allows it to remain unnoticed even when flying at low altitudes.
SkyStriker's mass is 35 kg, of which from 5 to 10 kg is the warhead (may vary depending on the type of combat mission). At the same time, SkyStriker can be reusable - if necessary, the operator can return the drone to the launch site, where it will land using the built-in parachute and “airbag”. After a brief maintenance, the “flying ammunition” will be again ready for the combat mission.
Last year, another Israeli company, Israel Aerospace Industries, presented a line of kamikaze drones. "Disposable" Drones Rotem L, Harpy NG and Green Dragon were first shown at the Singapore Airshow 2016 and, according to unofficial data, have already taken part in military conflicts. In 2015, "stray ammunition" was presented by UVision. In addition, kamikaze drones are being developed in the US, Poland and a number of other countries.
