The Turkish defense industry has mastered the production of a new generation of anti-tank missile systems (ATGW). The company Roketsan announced the completion of the development of OMTAS anti-tank systems and the delivery of the first batch of missiles and launchers to the Turkish army, reports "Warspot" with reference to the portal hurriyetdailynews.com

A contract for the development of a new generation of ATGMs was signed between Roketsan and the Defense Industry Secretariat of the Turkish Ministry of Defense in 2007. Two years later, the first prototypes of missiles were built, and qualification tests began. Yesterday it became known that the development of OMTAS was fully completed, and its mass production started.

Turkey announced the completion of the development of OMTAS ATGM

The OMTAS ATGM system was created on the basis of the UMTAS air-based anti-tank missile system, the development of which was launched in the 2005 year. The development work on the UMTAS was completed in the 2011 year, and now these missiles are used on airplanes, helicopters and UAVs of the Turkish Air Force.

OMTAS is a modern ATGM capable of operating in two modes - “fired and forgotten”, as well as “fired and corrected”. In this case, the guidance can be carried out both with the help of a launcher (with direct visibility), and with the help of a remote control module (when launching missiles from a shelter). The missiles of the new ATGM have a tandem warhead, which makes it possible to equally effectively destroy both the enemy's manpower and heavily armored targets at a distance of 4 km.

The news was a bit late. Our modules have already been manufactured for OMTAS and UMTAS missiles based on the BRDM-2

Something strange material. It seems like a rocket went into the series, and the cartoon was laid out in place of a real test

The most, it seemed to me, strange that in the cartoon appear tanks very similar to the "Abrams" ... Coincidence ??? I don’t think !!! laughing

Turkey is one of the three neighboring countries that has its own defense industry and is capable of producing something good. Of course, it will be an order of magnitude behind the advanced ones, but they don’t need it.

It was only reported that it would go into service within a year. But Wishlist is one thing, and the facts are somewhat different. The cost of firing a Turkish spill with this miraculous rocket, and in practice firing with thermal imagers (if what is written in the brochure corresponds to what was put into service), costs a pretty penny. How much they will be bought by the Turkish army, and whether it will buy them at all is not known.

A similar miracle with a thermal imaging seeker made in Israel costs 250 thousand dollars - a dozen shots (easily intercepted by KAZ) and the T-72 tank flew into the tube laughing
