The second Indian submarine project Scorpene out to sea
Its construction was carried out in accordance with the contract from 2005 of the year with the French shipbuilding association DCN (now DCNS) with the initial cost of 3,2 billion dollars, providing for the licensed construction of the 6 submarine of the Scorpene project (the Indian designation is 75 project).
According to the terms of the agreement, it was assumed that the submarines would be built on MDL with the assistance of DCNS with their delivery during 2012 – 2018. But due to technological problems in India and disagreements with the French side, the implementation of the program was significantly delayed. At the start of 2010, DCNS entered into an additional contract to assist the Indians in the supply of components for these boats for a total of $ 413 million.
The head Indian submarine of the Scorpene S 50 Kalvari submarine was laid out on MDL 1 on April 2009 of the year, taken out of the 6 workshop on April 2015 of the year, launched on October 27 of 2015 of the year, and began the 25 test of March on the 2016 of the year. Its delivery to the fleet is scheduled for July-August 2017. The second Indian boat of this type, the S 51 Khanderi, was laid on MDL in October 2011 of the year, was launched on 12 in January of 2017, and is now being put to the test. The Indian Navy is officially expected to surrender at the end of the 2017 of the year, but apparently this will happen already in the 2018 of the year.
Four submarines are under construction. The last two of them are supposed to be equipped with the Indian air-independent power plant being developed by DRDO (the principle of its operation is based on the production of hydrogen by reforming diesel fuel).
The situation with the main armament of Indian Scorpene - torpedoes is unclear. To date, only MBDA Exocet SM39 Block 2 anti-ship missiles have been acquired.
At 2013, an agreement was signed for the cost of 300 million for the purchase of Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei (WASS) 98 torpedoes from the Italian Finmeccanica group (now Leonardo), part of Whitehead’s Alenia Sistemi Subacquei (WASS). Black Shark 533 caliber mm. However, due to the scandal associated with the sale of India’s AW101 helicopters to another AgustaWestland company that was part of Finmeccanica, the Italian group, with all its subsidiaries, was included in the Indian military blacklist of contractors.
A new tender for the purchase of 533-mm torpedoes was announced. It is believed that the German Atlas Elektronik with a torpedo has the greatest chances SeaHake... At the beginning of 2014, this company signed an agreement with the Indian private company Pipavav Defense & Offshore Engineering Company (PDOC) to establish a joint venture to promote SeaHake torpedoes to the Indian fleet. It is planned that the assembly of most of the torpedoes will be organized at PDOC.
