Six South Korean Air Force KF-16 fighters flew to the United States on Thursday to take part in the Red Flag international military air maneuvers at Eilson airbase in Alaska, reports TASS message of the South Korean military department.
In addition to the fighters, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan sends a C-130 transport aircraft and about a hundred military personnel to the exercise.
It was originally planned that the KF-16 fighter jets would cover all the way to Alaska (its length is 7,7 thousand km) with air refueling supported by the US Air Force. But during the flight, technical problems arose (their nature was not revealed), as a result of which the planes landed to refuel at the US Air Force base Yokota, located in Japan in the southwest of Tokyo prefecture.
The international Red Flag exercise will be held from 12 on June to 23 under the command of the US Armed Forces. In addition to South Korea, it will be attended by units from Japan and Thailand.
