28 MAY - Border Guard Day
Officially in the Russian Federation, the frontier day calendar included 23 in May 1994 of the year on the basis of presidential decree No. 1011. We are talking about the decree, which bears the name "On the establishment of the Day of the border guard."
This year, the celebration of the Day of the representatives of the border service began earlier than the official date. On May 26, a delegation consisting of the leadership of the FS of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, employees of the service and members of the veterans' organizations laid flowers at the memorials and burials of the servicemen who commanded the troops in their time. Memorial events took place at the Troyekurovsky cemetery of the capital and other graves of prominent representatives of the Frontier Service.
On the eve of Moscow, a solemn event was held dedicated to the Day of the Border Guard - the laying of wreaths and flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden. The ceremony was attended by active border guards and veterans of the service to protect the borders of the motherland. Ceremonial events were held at the monument "To the Frontier Guards of the Fatherland", which is located on Moscow's Yauzsky Boulevard. We are talking about such an event as a solemn ritual of "Battle calculation", as reported by the press service of the PS of the FSB of the Russian Federation.
The history of the Border Guard Service of Russia is essentially the history of Russia itself. After all, it is difficult to separate one story from another, since the protection of state borders at all times was one of the most responsible missions. The first mention of the border guard service in the Russian state belongs to the 1360 year, when Metropolitan Alexy sent a blessing to the guards and stanichniki, who were faced with the task of monitoring the movement of the Horde units. A significant role was played by this kind of service for the subsequent victory of the Russian army on the Kulikovo Field.
In 1512, Vasily III asserts the notion of an outpost. These are frontier positions that should not only be watching the movements of armed “neighbors”, but also taking measures to prevent violations of the frontiers of the Russian state. After another 59 years in Russia, the document is adopted, which is considered to be the first border charter. This is the so-called Boyarsky verdict on the stanitsa and guard service.
Already under the Romanovs, in the 18th century, a border customs guard was created. The XIX century brings a streamlining of the device of the border customs guard, as it was designated in the position signed on behalf of Emperor Nicholas I in 1827 year.
However, all these vaults and regulations did not take the border guard (guards) into an independent combat unit. Only 8 years before the onset of the XX century, border guards (the name of the service at the time - 1893) became a truly independent branch of the military - a separate corps of border guards.
About the formation of the Border Guard Service after the October Revolution tells the remarkable Soviet film "State Border".
This film, shot at the Belarusian Film Studio, was awarded the KGB Prize of the USSR in the 1981 year and the USSR State Prize in the 1989 year. As is well known, in addition to the first stage of the formation of border structures of a young post-revolutionary Russia, the film also talked about other historical stages. In particular, the “State Border” is one of the few films of the Soviet period that told (in its 6 part called “Beyond the Threshold of Victory”) about the opposition of the Soviet border guards and employees of special services to the Bandera underground in the west of the Ukrainian SSR after the end of World War II . By the time the national cinemas of this part of the “State Border” (1987 year) entered the screens, not all Soviet citizens were aware of what the UPA stands for (the prototype of the Ukrainian organization, now forbidden by the court in the Russian Federation) population of Western Ukraine were different Bandera gangs. The film, directed by Boris Stepanov and screenwriter Oleg Smirnov, opened the page of the story, which even today is echoing with an evil echo in the once flourishing republic.
In 59 years ago - in 1958, in the USSR, for the great services rendered by border guards in protecting the state border, the USSR Council of Ministers decided to establish the same holiday date, which all border guards celebrate today. May 28 - Day of the border guard in Russia.
Despite their professional holiday, Russian border guards and on this day are serving to protect the borders of the Fatherland, protecting borders from the encroachments of those for whom personal gain and destabilization of the situation in Russia are important goals and objectives. Considering the fact that the borders of Russia are the longest in the world - both by water and by land; and as the president noted with irony, “the borders of the Russian Federation do not end anywhere”, it is safe to say that the service of the Russian border guards is as honorable as it is difficult.
Border guards oppose smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal fishing in Russian territorial waters, penetration of destructive elements into the territory of Russia with the aim of harming the interests of the country and the people. Border guards from the Karelian Suojärvi to the Southern Kuriles, from the Murmansk section of the border with Norway to the difficult border section with an inadequate neighbor on the Crimean peninsula, carry their uneasy service.
"Military Review" congratulates border guards and service veterans on the holiday!
