The situation in the world has changed a lot and the Baltic Fleet is again very much in demand
A dozen years ago, the attitude of the marine community towards the Baltic Fleet was slightly patronizing. And in former times - and more. In a sailor's joke-saying, he was called by the abbreviation "former fleet". But that was nothing: the Black Sea Fleet was called "Chi fleet, Chi not fleet."
It is understandable: in comparison with the Northern "most" fleet and the Pacific "too" fleet, the Baltic people did not pose particularly important combat tasks. There were no enemies right up to the Danish straits, which NATO would still block in the event of a major war. Sweden only squealed when inexperienced navigators famously drove submarines through its territorial waters, without even knowing about it. And the rest was - the Soviet Union and its allies, Poland and the GDR.
But it was convenient and prestigious to serve here. The bases are completely civilized, housing in good cities, the climate of the middle zone. And no strains with autonomies for six months - although the money is also not the same, yes ...
In general, a well-deserved retirement pension. And, in principle, the BF has more than earned it. Meanwhile, the Baltic fleet returning from retirement is becoming a similar “solid” fleet. So what to do? Neighbors and their patrons simply do not leave any other way out.

Former allies of the GDR and Poland joined NATO. The breakaway Baltic republics also entered there. And all at once began to fervently work out the slogan of a threat from Russia. Despite the fact that they did not have a single military-border incident with Russia, these limitrophic countries the farther, the more they slipped into anti-Russian hysteria, creating art after imagination crisis after crisis. And then they were also referred to in calls for the United States to finally introduce NATO troops on their territory. The military has its own laws. Truly written - in blood. Therefore, the Baltic Fleet today is rapidly losing its former bliss and gathering in a lean, mobile and very sharp-toothed predatory beast. It’s understandable why it’s hot - for the modern means of war, the Baltic Sea has become nothing more than a shallow lake. And it’s small in the literal sense of the word: you can get here any underwater “strategist” like the Northwind - but nowhere to hide. So the patrol ship ("Yaroslav the Wise") and the corvettes of various modifications remain the basis of the fleet’s combat strength. And the notable news is the inclusion of a new minesweeper in the fleet.
But then, as said, the “teeth” of the Baltic Fleet are sharp and, most importantly, grow back quickly, and then are replaced or simply supplemented by new ones. The same new-generation minesweeper Alexander Obukhov is unique and very well equipped. The world's largest fiberglass hull increases safety during trawling, and the latest mine contour allows you to automatically search for and destroy enemy mines.
However, a minesweeper is a tooth if it’s a molar. "Fangs" are on the TFR and corvettes, as well as on coastal defense complexes. These are the same "Caliber", "Malachite", "Onyx" and other missiles and systems that can smile no less menacingly than the "Iskander".
The fleet is invigorating before our eyes. The same Western barbarians now and then roll their eyes in the press: "Ah, the Russian plane behaved unprofessionally, passing 6 meters from ours, so ours had to urgently turn away and run away." Or: "Our destroyer flew around a Russian plane at an unacceptably low altitude, and the sailors then had to ask for an appointment with a psychotherapist." Our airmen and sailors are not particularly blamed for dashing. "Maybe someone will be crucified for excess, but not much," one of the sailors rephrased the words from the song of Vysotsky.
There is no that Soviet flabbiness, one of the senior naval officers noted, remembering those times when the military, and above all the political authorities trembled at the thought of a possible scandal due to dashing when pointing the adversary in his place. This was simpler in the North: our fighter was chopped off by a plane brazenly flying along the edge of the border of the Norwegian - there was only a generous promise to the authorities of the probable enemy "to sort it out." And the pilot was blown up, but not by much, for prevention, as they say.
Well, the time now is such that probable opponents are again brazenly pushing along our borders. So rashness and teeth are again in demand.
