The Chinese Aircraft Corporation (AVIC) successfully tested the Z-19E light combat helicopter, which received the nickname “Black Tornado”, reports "Tape.RU" Post of the People's Daily. Flight Z-19E took place in the morning at one of the airfields in Harbin.
The new helicopter is an upgraded version of the Z-9, which in turn was a licensed copy of the French Aerospatiale Dauphin helicopter. Z-19E take-off weight is 4,25 tons, the cabin is designed for two pilots.
It is distinguished from Z-9 by a reduced noise level, a modified cabin design for reliable protection of pilots from frontal attacks and a number of improvements to prevent foreign objects from getting into the propellers when flying at low altitude. The machine is equipped with a bulletproof fuel tank. It is noted that the "Black Tornado" surpasses many helicopters in its class in speed and maneuverability.
Z-19E is designed to defeat light and heavy armored vehicles on the battlefield, suppress enemy fire points, support ground forces, and can also be used to intercept low-flying targets.
The armament carried by the helicopter includes air-to-air, air-to-ground missiles and machine guns.
According to the People's Daily, the developers plan to supply the Black Tornado for export. For this, many of its parameters and options may be changed by the manufacturer in accordance with the wishes of the customer.
