Turkey successfully tested the new Anka-S UAV
During the first combat test, the drone hit the target with Roketsan MAM-L adjustable bombs. In the military, tests have been recognized as successful, and in the future, the UAV will be tested by CİRİT laser-guided missiles and UMTAS long-range anti-tank missiles.
According to the contract signed in 2013 by TAI and the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the manufacturer must supply the army with 10 Anka-S units by the end of 2018. According to representatives of the Turkish military department, the main purpose of military drones will be the fight against Kurdish armed formations inside the country, as well as in the regions of Syria and Iraq adjacent to Turkey.
The development of the Anka drone began in 2004 year - after the refusal of the United States to sell Turkey the impact drones Reaper and Predator. TAI has developed two versions of the aircraft: Anka Block A and Anka Block B (Anka-S). In the first version, the combat vehicle can perform reconnaissance functions, in the second, it can carry additional load in the form of bombs and missiles.
Anka-S has a maximum take-off weight of 1,6 t (payload - 200 kg). The wingspan is 17,4 m with a total length of less than 8 m. The drone is equipped with a Thielert Centurion 2.0 piston engine with a capacity of 155 l. with. The stated maximum duration of stay in the air is 24 hours, the flight altitude can reach 9 km.
