The US military for the second time in seven days carried out a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Minuteman III, reports RIA News Fox News message citing a statement by the US Air Force.
Earlier, the press service of the US Air Force reported that for the first time the US military 26 April successfully tested the intercontinental ballistic missile Minuteman III.
According to the channel, the launch of the rocket took place in the 03.00 area, local time (13.00 Moscow time) on Wednesday from Vandenberg base in the state of California. The rocket flew more than four thousand miles before falling into the waters of the Pacific Ocean near the Marshall Islands.
Earlier, the representative of the US Air Force Global Strike Command said that the tests were planned for the year and their conduct is not related to the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
Minuteman III is currently the only land-based intercontinental ballistic missile accepted into service in the United States. According to the latest data from open sources, the entire United States has 450 Minuteman III missiles, which will remain in service at least until the 2020 year.
The Minuteman III ICBMs have been in service with the US Army since 1970, at the end of 1978, their production was discontinued. The rocket is capable of hitting targets within a radius of 12 thousands of kilometers.
