Poland moves Leopard 2A5 tanks to the East
Tanks Leopard 2AXNX west of Poland near the German border. As a result, the most modern tanks of the Polish army will be moved to the East.
At present, both tank battalions of the 1 Tank Brigade are armed with Polish-made tanks RT-91 Twardy (an upgraded version of the licensed T-72М1 tank). After replacing them with a X-NUMXA2, the RT-5 tanks will be transferred to the 91 th Gizhitsky Mechanized Brigade named after Zavishi of the Black 15-th Pomeranian Mechanized Division, stationed in Gizica near the border with the Russian Kaliningrad Region. The 16 brigade of the T-15М72, which is in service, will be transferred to both tank battalions of the 1 brigade, which is losing its Leopard 34A2.
This castling has been carried out since the beginning of April 2017, the training of the personnel of the brigade for these tanks was begun in January. It is assumed that the construction and repair of the necessary infrastructure in Wesole will take two to three years.
The 105 tanks of the Leopard 2A5 and the 14 tanks of the Leopard 2A4 were transferred to Poland in the 2014-2015 from the presence of the German army. Earlier, in 2002-2003, Warsaw received the 128 Leopard 2A4 from Germany, which are equipped with two tank battalions of the armor-general of the Armor Cavalry Brigade named after General of the Army Stanislav Mask of the 10-th Luba Armor Cavalry Division in Svetosheve near the German border.
Currently, Poland is discussing the possibility of acquiring an additional 50-60 Leopard 2 tanks in order to equip another tank battalion. But in Germany, the stocks of tanks Leopard 2 have already been exhausted. In this regard, the option of buying Leopard 2A4, stored by the Spanish army, was worked out. But it was abandoned because of the unsatisfactory technical condition of the tanks.
