The American manufacturer AM General presented at the Singapore air show a right-hand drive version of its popular highly mobile multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV). The company sees a large market potential for HMMWV right-hand drive vehicles in this region with a number of left-hand drive countries. Singapore is an obvious potential customer, but, according to Gerrit Beck, the company's spokesperson, there are also left-hand 73 countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Australia and New Zealand.

"Of course, India is the largest potential customer," Beck said. “But we hope to find local partners,” he added. Beck also added that the company is pleased to consider both direct commercial sales and the supply of military samples of the new version of HMMWV. "At the request of the client, we can supply any version," he said. From the point of view of modernization, the main elements that have undergone a change were the movement of the steering window and the battery compartment. The right-hand drive version went through a full qualification cycle, and the result is a car with the same capabilities as the left-hand drive version.

The company will offer a right-hand drive option in all currently existing configurations. The company will continue to produce about 400 cars per month for US and international left-hand drive consumers. To date, 58 countries have purchased HMMWV. Beck said that the scale of production allows the company to offer full service support. "You do not just get a car, in our person you get a partner and a whole complex of logistics."

The version with the right wheel will be the most modern configuration of the car, which is constantly being improved since its entry into service in the 1985-th year. "Externally, the car is no different from previous versions, but it was completely modernized during this period." The international version of the 205 HMMWV weighs 6396 kg. The car is equipped with an engine developing 3400 revolutions per minute, as well as the most modern transmission and suspension.

"Despite the focus on the local military, the company is also considering the possibility of supplying the vehicle to civilian services, such as fire protection. This type of vehicle will be in great demand in the event of natural disasters," he concluded.
