American TV channel Fox News reported that the US Air Force fighter jets took to the air to intercept strategic missile-carrying bombers Tu-95MS. The report, spread by the so-called Northern Command of the US Armed Forces, says that Russian aircraft were moving at a distance of about 150 km from the American island of Kodiak south of the coast of Alaska.
It is particularly emphasized that the flight took place "in 450 km from the US Air Force base Elmendorf-Richardson." This military base is located in the largest city of Alaska Anchorage. The base houses the northwestern command of NORAD (the United States and Canadian Aerospace Defense System).
Representatives of the Northern Command of the Pentagon reported that the F-22 of the US Air Force had been raised to intercept Russian strategic bombers. In addition, the missile carriers in the air was accompanied by an American E-3 early-warning aircraft, which returned to the airbase only after the Tu-95MS of the Russian Aerospace Forces left the US air defense identification zone.
From the message of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (quoted RIA News):
All flights of airplanes of the Air Force were carried out and carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters, without violating the borders of other states.
Tu-95MS, departing from the air base Ukrainka (Amur region), made a flight in the Alaska region in the international airspace 17 of April.
