The day before in our feed News material was published reporting on the initiative of the Ukrainian authorities to postpone the celebration of Cosmonautics Day from April 12 to another date. The day of flight of the "first Ukrainian astronaut" was chosen as an indicative date. We are talking about Leonid Kadenyuk, who flew in 1997 on the American shuttle Columbia.
The start of the flight of Leonid Kadenyuk is dated 19 November 1997 of the year. It was on November 19 in Kiev that they planned to postpone the “decommunized” Cosmonautics Day.
However, Leonid Kadenyuk himself reacted negatively to the initiative of the Ukrainian authorities. According to him, the Day of Cosmonautics is an international holiday, and the flight of Yuri Gagarin has a “universal significance”.
According to the pilot-cosmonaut Leonid Kadenyuk, who graduated from the Chernigov VVAUL and Cosmonaut Training Center, attempts to make him “Ukrainian Gagarin” look ridiculous.
The words of Major General Leonid Kadenyuk lead radio station "Moscow says":
Nobody can replace Gagarin at all.
The reaction of the Ukrainian authorities to Kadenyuk’s refusal to support the idea of transferring Cosmonautics Day in Ukraine from April 12 to November 19 is not reported yet.
