As the TSAMTOAustralian Air Force received fifth military transport aircraft aviation C-27J Spartan.

The contract for the purchase of 10 machines of this type was concluded in May 2012. Its value is estimated at 1,4 billion. dollars (1,47 billion dollars). The indicated price includes initial material support, crew and technical personnel training.



These aircraft are designed to replace the outdated DHC-4 "Caribou", decommissioned in December 2009 years later 45 years of operation. They will allow troops and cargo to be transported to regions with short runways, complementing the strategic C-17A “Globmaster-3” and the tactical C-130J “Hercules”.

C-27J are assembled by Leonardo in Turin (Italy) for the United States, which, after they are upgraded, distribute the vehicles under the Foreign Military Sales program. C-27J in the USA are equipped with electronic warfare and anti-IR guidance systems, American-standard communications equipment and ballistic protection in the cockpit area and loading master station.

The assembly of the first aircraft for the Australian Air Force began in December 2012, the first flight he performed 18 December 2013. He arrived at the customer 25 June 2015 of the year. It is assumed that the C-27J fleet will reach full readiness for combat use at the end of 2017, when all ordered aircraft will be delivered to Australia.
