14
During the trial in the Moscow City Court against the resident of Estonia Arsen Mardaleishvili, the latter admitted that he was trying to collect information on the activities of the Russian military personnel of the Western Military District. On the eve, the Moscow City Court found Mardaleishvili guilty of espionage and sentenced him to 11 years in prison.
The FSB Public Relations Center reports that the Mardaleishvili case was entered into court under the “top secret” status. The review was held behind closed doors, and the details of the course of the court hearings were not disclosed due to the fact that the defendant reported on the nature of the activities of a spy character against the Russian troops.
Initially, the media passed information that Arsen Mardaleishvili is an Estonian citizen. However, it turned out that this person does not have an Estonian passport, but there is a document of a so-called non-citizen of Estonia.
TASS cites the statement of the representative of the DSP of the Federal Security Service:
Mardaleishvili pleaded guilty to the collection and transfer to representatives of the security police department of the Estonian Ministry of the Interior for a monetary reward of state-secret information regarding parts and formations of the Western Military District.
Tasks non-citizen of Estonia received from the special services of the Baltic republic.
It is worth noting that the President of the Russian Federation had previously decided on the possibility of abolishing the visa regime for those non-citizens of Estonia and Latvia who were born after 6 February 1992 of the year.
