The delegation of the Russian Airborne Forces will hold the first consultations in Nicaragua on conducting joint exercises with military personnel of the Central American countries, reports TASS message of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation
During the six-day visit, Russian military experts will hold a series of consultations with the Nicaraguan side on the participation of units of the Russian Airborne Troops in a joint Russian-Nicaraguan tactical exercise in the territory of the Republic of Nicaragua
- said in a statement.
Military experts of the two countries agree on the timing of the exercise, the composition of the units involved and the issues of comprehensive support.
Recall that Moscow supplied armored vehicles, airplanes and helicopters to Nicaragua, as well as artillery weapons in Soviet times - Soviet equipment was 90% in the Nicaraguan army. The military and technical cooperation of the two countries almost stopped in the 1990 year, and recovery began only in the middle of the 2000-s. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in 2016 year stated that Russia will continue to assist the army of Nicaragua in equipping it with modern weapons, as well as to train the military of this country in Russian military schools.
