The US Army has resumed testing a new version of the anti-tank missile system (ATGM) FGM-148F, with the aim of expanding the range of applications, the militaryhistorical portal "Warspot" with reference to janes.com Modification FGM-148F is the latest version of Javelin FGM-148 ATGM, its key feature is a new multi-purpose warhead. Javelin Joint Venture (JJV, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon) claims that, thanks to the presence of a fragmentation warhead, new missiles can effectively hit enemy manpower, lightly armored targets, as well as destroy cover. At the same time, the FGM-148F modification missiles did not lose the ability to hit Tanks and other heavily armored targets. In addition to the multi-purpose warhead, the FGM-148F differs from previous versions in its reduced weight.
The development of FGM-148F was suspended at the end of last year due to problems with the warhead. The company JJV stated that it had already eliminated all the problems, the new version of the Javelin ATGM is in fully operational condition and will be put into service after the tests are over. The development of the Javelin ATGM system is carried out in four stages (they are called spirals at the US Department of Defense). The modification of FGM-148F is the second spiral of the development program, in the framework of the third and fourth stages the manufacturer will work to further reduce the mass and cost of the complex
