The United States resumed testing a new version of ATGM Javelin FGM-148

62
The US Army has resumed testing a new version of the anti-tank missile system (ATGM) FGM-148F, with the aim of expanding the range of applications, the militaryhistorical portal "Warspot" with reference to janes.com
Modification FGM-148F is the latest version of Javelin FGM-148 ATGM, its key feature is a new multi-purpose warhead. Javelin Joint Venture (JJV, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon) claims that, thanks to the presence of a fragmentation warhead, new missiles can effectively hit enemy manpower, lightly armored targets, as well as destroy cover. At the same time, the FGM-148F modification missiles did not lose the ability to hit Tanks and other heavily armored targets. In addition to the multi-purpose warhead, the FGM-148F differs from previous versions in its reduced weight.
The United States resumed testing a new version of ATGM Javelin FGM-148

The development of FGM-148F was suspended at the end of last year due to problems with the warhead. The company JJV stated that it had already eliminated all the problems, the new version of the Javelin ATGM is in fully operational condition and will be put into service after the tests are over.
The development of the Javelin ATGM system is carried out in four stages (they are called spirals at the US Department of Defense). The modification of FGM-148F is the second spiral of the development program, in the framework of the third and fourth stages the manufacturer will work to further reduce the mass and cost of the complex

For a spectacular explosion, a bunch of explosives were pushed into the tank along the way. After detonation, some rollers remained. It doesn’t happen. They have a similar video about Stinger’s tests, there, too, one main rotor remained in the air from the helicopter. Hollywood EPT.

In Iraq, one combatant ranger from a camera from 50 meters didn’t get into a T-55 without a crew from an ATGM. He didn’t shoot the second one - apparently they threatened to deduct the cost of the second from his RFP.

Correction: to fumes that obscure the thermal circuit of the target.
And also the time of “freezing” before launching for about 30 seconds and several minutes of maintaining readiness for launching. During this time, the target can hide and appear after the end of the readiness time (it simply rolled out on the tank for 20 seconds, shot and hid for 10 minutes).

A disguise like Leshky (or a standard Cape) will make any tank or any other equipment invisible to the infrared homing head of this complex ... You just need not to be lazy, there isn’t a regular one — tear any rags on ribbons and mask the technique ... I think it’s very good to hang such Leshiy right on the remote control from the trellised screens that will need to protect the tank both around the perimeter and from above ...

Actually, "Javelin" can "fly" at a distance of at least 4 km. The "capabilities" of the GOS limit the range to 2,5 km Here it is interesting how in this case the Chinese "twisted": their analogue of "javelin" with the thermal GOS is "rushing" on 2 km, and from the television seeker "swings" on 4 km ...

Pure Hollywood. The stripe-thirst craving for a "superweapon", which in one fell swoop with seven beating ... is indestructible ... the GOS on the long-wave infrared range is serious, Algorithm with an attack from above is also an unpleasant feature. The low attack speed facilitates the work of an active defense complex like Arena and more modern ones. The angle to her a little fix.
And I have never seen how this dirty trick works on a moving, maneuvering target.
A rocket does not fly much faster than a bird (100 m / s). IMHO, kamikaze drone barrage and cheaper, and more deadly.

Does nobody really dare that the video is purely commercial, because in reality the thermal seeker will hit not a tower but a hot transmission. If a full movie were shown, where at the very beginning the tank tower is heated with two heat guns, it would become clear why such a result, plus they filled the tank with explosives, but if I hooked a cart with a heat simulator or just burning rubber, I would look where that rocket would have fucked.

The hottest parts of the tank are the barrel, caterpillars, the grille of the engine compartment and the exhaust pipe.

ATGMs are effective only on tanks that are not equipped with active defense complexes such as Afganita, Arena and Trophy. Due to the inefficiency of work on new tanks in the ATGM ammunition, missiles with high-explosive fragmentation warheads began to appear to combat unarmored targets (in order not to discard such super-expensive complexes as Javelin).

In this area they rule much cheaper ATGM Metis, Cornet and Tou.

It’s only that KAZ standing on Armata, as well as the Arena and Trophy, cannot intercept rockets flying into the roof, if the projectile were deployed in the opposite direction at the Arena, then intercepting a projectile flying into the roof would be possible.

In general, you are right - “Afganit” and “Trophy” are not in a position to intercept kryshoeboy (this is why the T-14 are additionally equipped with vertical mortars to set the aerosol curtain against the keeper of the roof).

But “Arena” intercepts ATGMs in the entire upper hemisphere - an elegant domestic solution.

I remember how much American enthusiasm was about the "Stinger" .... Then our flyers "met" him ..... And then they learned to fight him ...

Not only flyers fought with him. Several samples were captured, and then the struggle continued in the laboratories. It is worth noting here that what is technically problematic to organize in the air is easily organized on the ground. For example: SOEP-B1A installed on helicopters had “dead zones”. The tank will not have such zones. With our cameras in Afghanistan, there was a strain, otherwise many would have watched the “Stinger” that fell under the emission of the EECS began to rush from side to side, and then burst into the side.

You underestimate them. At the last stage, not only the IR channel is involved in the guidance. Any object has its own field, and the tank is no exception.

It’s precisely at the top of the field that the rocket’s turn takes place at the last stage of flight. This "ailment" is also treated. Using emitters, you can create a "phantom" of the tank, or "finish" the tubercle behind the tank.

ATGM Javelin, the car is serious, but also specific, not for use in the army, more for special forces.
Let me explain: 1. This, of course, is a cost compared to a KORNET type ATGM (although for those who don’t get money from chickens ... this is not a problem). 2. Interference stability ... despite the use of different ranges, in order to eliminate false interference, the signature of the tank or other armor. object, less aircraft and intense fighting. collisions, such as the Battle of Kursk, a huge number of false targets appear, active and passive types (burning tanks, houses, smog from shots, bushes, trees, smoke and aerosol curtains, wedging their equipment in the ranks of the enemy, etc.), which does not allow both visually observing a dangerous object and identifying them. In addition, the likelihood of automatically redirecting the homing head to another, false target in relation to the selected one increases. Well, the third, SAMA homing head (by analogy with MANPADS requires forced cooling) ... taking into account autonomy, from the moment (the first step of pressing the trigger) the power supply and cooling gas to the head, until the rocket launches, should pass + / - 3 seconds (if more, the head cools down and the battery sits down), then after them, the complex prepares again for start-up by replacing the coolant and battery blocks (if the memory does not change, then the Stinger’s battery is reusable and the container with coolant is disposable, Arrows in a single unit) ... about the same principle for all ammunition with active homing heads, and taking into account the hindrances and other factors described above, its use in combat operations of increased intensity is quite problematic from the point of view of the short-term launch process .. Another thing is sabotage or partisan actions ... Perhaps I am mistaken in drawing such an analogy (about the trophy ATGMs Javelin, studied and presented widely the general public does not yet know what is printed for the average person, it will endure the paper), but still I am waiting for your explanations, with the goal of my development, rather than empty criticism, which does not lead to anything ... Thank you in advance. PS In my opinion, such complexes should complement, and not replace, general. military, but ignoring their development is extremely logical and reckless ...

Actually, "Javelin" is not a "god" to "pray for him. Now several types of missiles with thermal imaging seekers are coming into service with different countries. If we look at these" devices ", we can notice their" evolution ": 1. Now there thermal imaging GOS that do not require cooling; 2. Combined GOS (thermal + semi-active laser; IR + TV ....) 3. It is believed that a thermal imaging GOS does not direct the missile at the “heat spot” (heat detection), but at the thermal “circuit” of the target . Hence, it is possible to program the GOS in such a way that the rocket will not just be guided on the target, and on a certain "part" of the target. Work is underway to do this simply and quickly. Also, work is underway to automatically recognize targets on the contour (like: shot, without aiming, forgot) .4. Often, missiles with expensive, sophisticated seekers are equipped with “multifunctional” warheads (cumulative + FF; “shock-nuclear” + FF; cumulative + FF + incendiary) PSYou are right ... as one entertainer said: “crayfish” should be “according to the ruble’s 3” and “ for 5 rubles. very sensitive to smoke.

As was proved in Syria, when the t-72 effectively rolled out - it fired and sharply handed back - 3 rockets into milk!))))

Strongly “smart” missiles and warheads are stupidly jammed by the tank with electronic warfare. So the RPG-7 and their modernization remain the most effective) There are still types of ATGMs with mechanical control!

In fact, it’s not as easy to “jam smart rockets” as it seems! For example, long ago, several countries have been armed with missiles with thermal GOS: Javelin, Spike, etc. ..... What can the T-72, T-90 counterpose to them? Only aerosol grenades! This is still not enough. And about the RPG-7 ... but there are already wearable missile systems with an inertial guidance system: NLAW, SRAW

The video is ancient. And they admitted that the whole tank was stuffed with explosives for a greater effect, so it was so torn.

Lying. There was no supposedly “recognition”. By the way, in Syria, tanks scattered as well.

look at the real combat defeats of tanks in SYRIA and IRAQ and you will see how they really burn and explode.

Professor. Hey, God, you are like an old grumbler, everything is wrong for you.
The lie that there was no recognition, this time.
Two, how they burn and explode, I know no worse than you! But SO they definitely don't explode!
Or will you give me examples of just such tank explosions?
Your example shows only a flash, but not a result, but I'm talking about the result - a completely torn tank. Apparently the cardboard was laughing
