The French government has chosen the Airbus Helicopters H-160 helicopter as the platform for the delivery of the HIL light inter-service helicopter (Helicoptere Interarmees Leger) delivery program, reports TSAMTO.
According to French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, the government intends to purchase helicopters from 160-ti to 190, their delivery should begin in the 2024 year.
"The construction of helicopters will be carried out at several production sites: the fuselage will be manufactured at the plant in Donauworth (Germany), tail beams - in Spain, and avionics and other dynamic components, such as gearboxes and blades - at various factories in France", - said in publications.
The final assembly will take place in Marignane (France).
The helicopter was first demonstrated in Florida 2015 at the Heli Expo.
As the developers had previously stated, the H-160 "can reach speeds up to 160 nodes, its range with 12 paratroopers on board is up to 120 nautical miles, maximum flight range during search and rescue operations is 450 nautical miles." Development of the machine began in 2013, ended in 2015 year.
The Ministry of Defense expects that the acquisition of a single platform for performing various functions will significantly save money, which today in large quantities is spent on the maintenance of assorted equipment and personnel training.
