Submachine gun - firearms weapon personal use, manufactured under the pistol-type ammunition. Structurally combines small-sized pistol and the continuity of automatic firing of the machine gun.

Submachine gun Dragunov PP-71

History intelligence activities
Theoretical foundations and practical principles for conducting troop intelligence, incl. and the depth, which was previously carried out by the army and front-line reconnaissance units, from the end of the Second World War in the period to the end of the 60-ies of the XX century, underwent significant changes. This was due not only to the reorganization of the activities of units of this type, the modernization of small arms and the revision of the theory of the use of intelligence units. The basic concept of combat operations has changed, and, in particular, the functionality of the intelligence units. The stake in the modern battle was made to improve the technical capabilities of warfare. Under these conditions, the approach to personal weapons of intelligence officers has changed. Increased demands were made on him, which ultimately led to the creation of the Kedr.Klin submachine guns, the prototype of which was the Dragunov PP-71 submachine gun.

Tactical purpose of the submachine gun
The main condition for this product is to keep the shooter’s location a secret, due to the greatly reduced shot sound and its light accompaniment. It was they who determined the choice of ammunition, as in this case with the PP-71, to which the 9-mm pistol cartridge (9xXNNXX) used on a large scale was quite adapted. The initial data — the initial flight speed of the bullet, which did not exceed the sound threshold, and a small recoil impulse in the production of a shot made it possible to use an elementary type of automation and a sound silencer. Especially since such weapons were already in service. The cartridge under the “Makarovsky” PB with the 18P6 index from 9 was already used by the intelligence units of the USSR Ministry of Defense. However, this ammunition at certain distances did not provide the necessary accuracy of fire. The shooting performance over a range of over 1967 meters remained very weak, and only a few were hit over 50 meters. For the time period of the end of 100-x - the beginning of 60-s of the XX century, the requirements seemed to be impossible, and therefore the work was curtailed.

The history of the creation of PP-71
The submachine gun Dragunov PP-71 was made in the early 70-ies of the XX century in the framework of the contest "Bouquet", which was commissioned by the security forces of the Soviet Union. At present, it is almost impossible to clarify how the results of the creation and testing of PPS-10P and TKB-486 pistols influenced the development of small arms in the USSR. At the same time, the designers returned to the idea of using small submachine guns in separate operations of power structures. Under the conditions of this competition “Bouquet”, test samples of “noiseless” - pistol-machine guns of designers EF Dragunov - PP-71, N.S.Ryzhov - TKB-0102 and N.M. Afanasyev - TKB-0104 ( an improved model - "Cypress"), which were intended for special forces units of the SA and Navy.

The principle of PP-71
The principle of operation of the automatic machine gun Dragunov PP-71 based on the impact of the free shutter. Shot production takes place when the barrel is not locked. The main feature of the PP-71 is the design of the nodes of the mechanism on the modules. Absolutely without the use of tools, you can disassemble into parts: a clip, a receiver cover, a return spring from a guide, a trigger and a safety lock that simultaneously controls the transfer of fire to another mode. The safety mechanism locks the trigger and aligns the bolt with the groove on the bottom plane of the bolt. This prevents recharging with the safety mechanism turned on. When the safety switch is in the “on” position, the segment of the safety lever mechanism falls into the opening of the trigger guard, which makes it possible to establish the ability of the weapon to fire. At the end of all ammunition, the ammunition dispatcher holds the bolt-piece in the extreme rear position. Rear-view vehicle of the combined type, has automatic switching when installing a folding stock. When it is folded, the fuse becomes in a walking position. When the "marching" butt used sights in the form of a shield with a slot, with the combat position of the butt is set diopter sight with the whole.

The name of the successor to the PP-71 - the PP-91 "Kedr" submachine gun, encodes the name of the author: Design by Evgeny DRagunov.

This is not a receiver. This is it, only they took it from the shelf and blew off the dust. As always, our designers are ahead of time. And the high command of the campaign is happy, they have no time to watch.

The army was not satisfied with the characteristics of these samples in terms of reliability (all samples are very far from the reliability of the AKM), in terms of the energy of the ammunition (in terms of the distance of confident defeat of the enemy). All this led to the continued operation of PBS-1 products and the development of the VSS-AS complex. The samples that did not pass for adoption by the USSR Armed Forces were adopted in the 90s by the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation ("Cypress"; "Kedr"; "Wedge").

For close combat, I think we can’t replace it. Although the specifications are not complete.
