In the near future, the Sazhen-TM system built in the interests of GLONASS will start operating in South Africa
Earlier, NPP SPP reported: “29 of December 2016 of the year was completed commissioning work on the installation of the Sazhen-TM CBS in the territory of the Hartebisthuksky radio astronomy observatory in South Africa”.
This is the second CBS of the foreign segment of the network of measuring stations of the GLONASS system created by SPP in the framework of the Sigal development work provided for by the Federal Target Program “Maintenance, development and use of the GLONASS system on 2012 - 2020 years” said in a statement .
According to the press service, “in the period from 16 to 22 December 2016, a series of night and daytime laser measurements of the range of the GLONASS and LAGEOS geodetic satellites was carried out.
Evaluation of the accuracy characteristics of the measurement results, carried out by specialists of the branch "Precision navigation and ballistic support", confirmed the compliance of the obtained measurement data with the technical characteristics stated in the Sazhen-TM technical passport, the company noted.
Earlier, at the end of November, 2016, a radio engineering-free measuring station SM-GLONASS was launched at the same point in South Africa.
Help press service: The Sazhen-TM laser rangefinder is designed to determine the distance to the spacecraft equipped with laser retroreflectors and measure the angular coordinates of the spacecraft from the reflected solar radiation to calculate high-precision motion parameters of the spacecraft, as well as to obtain photometric information in the visible wavelength range. The system can also be used to synchronize the time between remote points with subnanosecond precision. "
