The C-500 air defense missile system will not enter service with the Armed Forces of the East Kazakhstan region until 2017
The C-500 anti-aircraft missile system, which is being developed by the Almaz-Antey GSKB, will perform both anti-missile and anti-aircraft defense tasks. He is able to operate at an altitude of more than two hundred kilometers. Compared with the previous generation (C-400 “Triumph”), the C-500 ADMS is characterized by a more advanced radar capable of identifying targets at a distance of 800 kilometers, as well as an interceptor missile hitting targets flying at 7 km / s. In addition, the C-500 system is distinguished by very good maneuverability, which is achieved due to its compactness. It is planned to put the 10 C-500 divisions into service with the armies of the East Kazakhstan region.
Now in the territory of the Russian Federation - near Moscow and in the Far East - new C-400 anti-aircraft missile systems are being installed instead of C-300, which have long ago developed their resource. However, in the field of combat readiness of the Russian Armed Forces armies the emphasis was on C-500 complexes, not C-400. Experts warn that in the current situation related to the delayed development of C-500, the Russian missile defense system is in a very vulnerable position. The postponement is associated with the development of a large number of new technologies (this takes time), as well as with the organizational problems of the manufacturer.
Thus, for disrupting the tasks of the 2010 state defense order related to the supply of C-400 systems and the delay in creating C-500, Igor Ashurbeyli was dismissed from his post as Almaz CEO. Ashurbeyli himself sees the reason for his resignation in the outbreak of the war for the financial means of the state defense order and in the export on the subject of East Kazakhstan. According to him, the Ministry of Defense opposed his resignation. Ashurbeyli also said that everything was going according to plan, and the work on the technical design of the C-500 system was completed by the beginning of 2011.
According to Vitaly Neskorodov, general director of OAO Almaz-Antey GSKB, the company shifted the development period of C-500 to 2015 year due to organizational problems that have arisen, and not technological or technical. Such problems are largely due to the fact that after the death of Alexander Lemansky, the creator of C-400, for one and a half years the company had no general designer.
Neskorodov confirmed that the technical design work, defining the appearance of the system, was indeed completed in the 2011 year. However, the technical project had to work for 1,5-2 years (and 3 worked for the year), since the development plan of the C-500 SAMs involves the creation of a complex for 6 years. In this regard, the head of the company believes that so far there is nothing to be proud of, because in half the time which was devoted to the creation of the complex, the company's specialists managed to complete only the technical design phase. And this is only a small part of the huge amount of work that needs to be done before the system is adopted.
According to the general director of the company, the first samples of individual C-500 SAM systems in hardware can be seen at the end of 2012, after which the system will be tested.
Vitaly Neskorodov, referring to the secrecy of information, did not tell about the features that distinguish the C-500 complex, but noted that this system is completely new, not compatible with the C-400 system, due to the newest technical solutions used in its development. They allow you to solve problems at a higher quality and quantitative level. According to Neskorodova, the C-500 system is not a typical AAMS in its usual representation. It will be something more. According to the project, the system will not yield to the best analogues in the world.
The head of Almaz-Antey does not share the concerns expressed about the vulnerability of the Russian missile defense system in the absence of C-500. Neskorodov noted that a program is currently in operation, involving the overhaul and modernization of C-300 of previous generations to the level of the Favorit system, which represents the pinnacle of development of this complex.
Vitaly Neskorodov assured that those technical solutions that are used in the “Favorite” fully meet the modern level. The specialist argues that there is a strict logical relationship between the delivery times of the new generation systems and the order of modernization of the old complexes, so there is no reason for concern.
The general director of the company said that the Almaz-Antey State Design Bureau had completely eliminated all overdue obligations to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on state defense orders. Now the company is working in the normal schedule associated with the supply. In addition, all deliveries of the C-400 air defense system were ensured: the company passed and installed the 3 system in the Kaliningrad Region.
Recall that VKO was created in 2001 year and is associated with the formation of the Space Forces in Russia. In 2010, by order of President Dmitry Medvedev, EKR troops were created. In his Message addressed to the Federal Assembly, the president proposed to unite under a single strategic command, the air defense and missile defense systems, control of outer space and rocket attack warnings.
In an ultimatum to the Americans, connected with the negotiations on missile defense systems stalled, Dmitry Medvedev ordered the adoption of measures to strengthen the Russian anti-missile shield. According to this order, from December 1 the Aerospace Defense Forces took over combat duty.
Last week, during a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government, Dmitry Rogozin, responsible for the development of the military-industrial complex, Medvedev announced the launch of production of the VKO missile system in the very near future. Such systems will be in demand not only in Russia, but also abroad.
Rogozin, in turn, reported to the president about the start of construction of new plants in Russia, where the production of air defense and missile defense systems will go. According to the vice-premier, a similar enterprise in Nizhny Novgorod will produce 6 billion rubles worth of weapons every year and will provide thousands of people with 5 jobs. The military factory in Kirov will give 3 thousands more jobs.
