Japan protests against assigning names to the five islands of the Kuril ridge
81
Secretary of the Japanese government Yosyhide Suga said that the official Tokyo protests in connection with the assignment by Russia of the names of the five nameless islands of the Kuril ridge. Recall that earlier, on the basis of the order of the head of the Russian government Dmitry Medvedev, on the initiative of the Russian Geographical Society, five Kuril nameless islands were named. One of the islands is named after the Soviet military commander, General Kuzma Derevyanko, who signed the Japan surrender act from the Soviet Union.
Kyodo News Agency transmits a Japanese official statement:
Such actions (of Russia) cause extreme regret and do not respond to the strengthening of ties. We sent a protest 13 February to Russia through diplomatic channels.
That is, according to the logic of Mr. Sugi, publications in the central Japanese media that “Russia transfers the Northern Territories to Japan (the Japanese version of the Kurils name) under the pressure of sanctions,” are responsible for strengthening ties, and assigning names to the nameless Kuril Islands isn’t? If official Tokyo has such logic, then one can hardly expect real progress in establishing full-scale contacts and connections. Moreover, Tokyo has not yet made efforts to lift the sanctions mentioned above from the Russian Federation, everywhere announcing the need to sign a peace treaty and reflecting on "territorial problems".
Recall that earlier, the President of Russia, in an interview with Japanese media, said that Russia has no territorial problems with anyone.
