In Estonia, allowed to make weapons to private enterprises

Estonian private companies will be entitled to produce weapon and ammunition transmits Interfax-AVN report of the head of the Council of the Union of Defense Industry Enterprises of the Republic of Kuldar Väärsi.

Estonian self-propelled tracked battle robot developed by Milrem.

According to the entrepreneur, last Friday he signed with the Minister of Defense of Estonia Margus Tsahkna "Guidelines for the development of the defense industry for the 2017-2019 years."

This is a very important agreement for us, since the government promises to prepare a package of amendments to the legislation and allow the production of weapons and ammunition at private enterprises, which is currently prohibited,
said Väärsi.

He recalled that the first enterprises began to work on the needs of defense in the early 1990-s. They produce both military and civilian products.

“Now about 100 enterprises are working on defense, they produce from boots and equipment for soldiers to cyber defense technologies and unmanned aerial vehicles,” said a representative of the Estonian defense industry complex.

“Electronics, power engineering, imitators, robotics, tracked armored personnel carriers for the battlefield are also produced,” he added.

We are faced with the task, above all, to work for the needs of the State Defense Forces, as well as to increase competitiveness in the international market, to achieve an increase in exports and state revenues
declared Väärsi.

The defense minister promised to private enterprises of the defense industrial complex "financial and informational support, as well as assist in establishing the necessary contacts," he said. In other words, he promised to “open doors for us in this business,” the entrepreneur noted.

He clarified that currently about 20 defense enterprises work for export. The most promising markets, according to Väärsi, are the USA, the Middle East and Asia.

When asked by the correspondent whether the Estonian defense industry has ties with Russian colleagues, Väärsi answered briefly: “No”.

The Baltic states have nothing and I do not believe that any of the large Western companies will transfer production there.

Cyber security in the civilian Internet segment is one thing. But the security of leading states in the field of armaments is a closed topic and exists in its field, which does not intersect with a conventional network. Military, as well as government networks and communication systems should be kept as closed as possible from outside, and not physically, but programmatically. Whoever does not understand this will constantly yell about Russian hackers. As happened with the Clinton correspondence, which, contrary to the rules, used the left server, where it was successfully hacked. And I doubt that Estonia would be entrusted with such an important area as security at the level of the largest states.

If the country has specialists in cyber security software (advanced software),
then they can even write software for any military hardware.
And without it, any UAV or robot is a toy from the store.
Schoolchildren make gliders easily, but a video camera the size and weight of an eagle’s eyes
