Vietnam intends to buy Akash and BrahMos from India

33
Vietnam is negotiating with India on the purchase of Akash short-range air defense systems and BrahMos cruise missiles, reports TSAMTO with reference to the Indian newspaper “The Economic Times”.

“Proposals for the sale of Akash and KR Bramos were handed over to Hanoi against the backdrop of India’s and Vietnam’s decision to raise the level of strategic partnership, which was announced following the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Hanoi in September 2016 of the year,” the newspaper writes .

Earlier, with reference to sources, the publication reported on the "great interest" of Vietnam to the "Akash" complexes. The government was considering the possibility of obtaining technology and organizing the joint production of an air defense system in Vietnam.

However, India believes that the process should be gradual: first, the sale of a small batch, and only then - the organization of production.

As for BrahMos, their sale is a more complicated process in connection with the current “Missile Technology Control Regime” (limited to 290 km). In addition, the transfer of technology to create missiles requires the consent of Russia, since they are produced in the framework of the joint venture. "BrahMos" is still equipped with more than 60% Russian components.

Help TSAMTO: “The Akash short-range air defense missile system is intended for hitting air targets, including fighters, cruise missiles and air-to-air missiles, at distances up to 30 km and altitudes up to 18 thousand meters. Assault Akash - a two-stage solid-fuel rocket 5,78 long m and a starting mass of more than 720 kg, equipped with a warhead of 55 kg. "

when it comes to weapons that India purchases, they begin to think differently.

Another hemorrhoids. In the most complicated arms sales deals. Why don’t they buy ours? Judging by the whims, India is still that fruit. We must not concede.

Yes, the price there is miserable.
but Vietnam doesn’t have much money. therefore, air defense systems can still be purchased, but Bramos is unlikely. too expensive.

Where does the data about "not very money" come from? It seems that Vietnam is not in poverty at all, it is implementing serious infrastructure projects and everything is in order with investments. Regarding purchases from India, the situation is the opposite - Bramos is a serious RCC and the price is right, and the price is not the main thing, the main thing is that it can be sold to Vietnam and it is difficult to buy a similar product on the market. Arkash - on the contrary, air defense systems from the performance characteristics of the 70s, a dubious acquisition. The Hindus made this system and put it into service as part of the development of their own production (where it is necessary to start with something), but why Vietnam does not understand this dubious air defense system.

Well, our SAM is no longer produced. Why aren’t they buying Yakhont? HZ. But here it is most likely a matter of production. And so the number of Onyxes delivered to the Navy is small, but here it’s necessary to either set up a new export line, or use the export option Yakhont on the same line

A good example of what the sale of military technology leads to:
in India - SAM, in China - tanks, planes, ships ......
so soon we’ll proceed from the export of arms to the export of agricultural products, and only ...

In fact, the sale of brahmos is a re-export, and much depends on the position of Russia, that is, the likelihood of bargaining, or some kind of political deal.

The Akash short-range missile missile painfully resembles our 3M9 Cube air defense missile system, is it interesting that the Indians do it under license or did they learn bad things from the Chinese?)))

The missile was created with the aim of exporting to other countries. As far as I remember from reports somewhere at the level of 2010-2012, several Latin American countries concluded a contract with India for the supply of Bramos to the ESNIP of 13 or 15 billion dollars. Moreover, with those countries with which Russia does not trade military products. I don’t remember the quantity, but something in the region of five hundred pieces

Perhaps Russia does not want to spoil relations with the PRC, it was suggested to Vietnam that through India it would be possible to take the KR and the SAM, so that the PRC would not offend.

Bramos, okay, modern weapon. BUT Akash does not quite correspond to the present, even taking into account the fact that he was brought to mind not so long ago. SAM itself, in principle, meets the requirements for such a complex. However, there are three of them on PU, this is now clearly not enough. At the level of the 70s. Roland 2s, krotal, beech, beech2, etc. Everywhere we see an increase in the number of missiles. Sincerely.

Of course it will. Joint projects are always regulated by the rights and obligations of participants. There is an understanding of the cost price and sale price, then they include a "calculator" and divide the profit by the degree of participation. Everything is somewhat more complicated, but on the whole it is. Joint projects also include agreeing to whom, how much and at what price you can sell the product without prejudice to the participating countries. Russia, in the person of OAO VPK NPO Mashinostroyeniya, is substantially “falling” from those missiles that India buys for itself (about 1000 were planned).
