Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation will not detain Yanukovych on request from Kiev

The official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, Alexander Kurennoy, said that the department had refused to ask Kiev about the “need to detain and detain” former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. RIA News cites the statement of Aleksandr Kurenno:
I inform that in the 2015-2016 years, the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine in connection with the conduct of pre-trial investigations on a number of criminal proceedings received requests for temporary detention and detention of Viktor Fedorovich Yanukovych before receiving requests for his extradition. Based on the review results, the petitions were dismissed on the grounds provided for in paragraph 2 of Article 3 of the European Convention on Extradition from 13.12.1957, of which the Ukrainian side was informed.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation believes that the criminal prosecution of Viktor Yanukovych’s Ukrainian authorities is politically motivated. Such persecution violates the legislation of the Russian Federation in that part where it is said that the persecution of a person is unlawful, on the basis of his nationality, religion or political opinion.
Earlier, the GP RF refused to grant 12 to ex-employees of the Ukrainian “Berkut” in Ukraine. The now-mentioned ex-fighters of the Ukrainian "Berkut" for the most part serve in the Russian internal affairs agencies.
