Avdiivka - a chance for Kiev
On Thursday evening, a regular meeting of the UN Security Council was held. One of its main topics was the discussion of the situation in the Donbas near the settlement Avdiivka, where on January 29, the Ukrainian armed forces provoked the LDNR people's militia to return fire. As a result, the sluggish war in the Donetsk region resumed with a new force.
It should be noted that this time there was practically no dispute over the instigator of hostilities in the international community. OSCE representatives acknowledged that the fire was opened from the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which can also be evidenced by data from surveillance cameras.
At the same time, the official Kiev does not hide its intentions - not to stop the offensive and continue to bombard the areas bordering Donetsk. The other day, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Igor Pavlovsky, literally stated the following: “Meter by meter, step by step, having the opportunity, our guys heroically moved forward.” Understanding the situation, it can be stated that the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin gave the most accurate assessment of what is happening.
In his speech at the meeting of the UN Security Council, the permanent representative of Russia noted a “certain” pattern between the exacerbations of the situation in the Donbas and the negotiations between Petro Poroshenko and Western colleagues. Recall 30 January (immediately after the start of the shelling of the Avdeevsky industrial zone), the Ukrainian leader held a discussion with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, at which the parties discussed the Kiev implementation of the Minsk agreements and possible ways for Ukraine to recover from the crisis. You can also cite as an example the meeting of the “Norman Four” in Berlin in October last year, which coincided with the escalation of the military conflict in the Mariupol direction.
In addition to the “random” coincidences, Vitaly Churkin noted that the resumption of hostilities in the Donbas is of direct interest to Ukraine. As the Russian permanent representative stated, shelling the populated areas of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, the Ukrainian side “is trying to“ tie ”its reckless, confrontational policies of the newly elected heads of state, expecting to receive financial support from them. In other words, Ukraine is trying to arouse the interest of 45 US President Donald Trump, hoping to turn out to be a victim of Russian aggression.
Be that as it may, the bloody play that the Ukrainian authorities played out in front of the new head of the White House in the Avdiivka area may not pay off.
It is worth recalling that during his election campaign Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that if he wins the election, the United States will look for ways to establish a dialogue with Moscow.
Two weeks after the inauguration of the newly elected president, there is every reason to believe that the election promises made by the American leader were not populist rhetoric. A vivid example is the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, after which information appeared on the network (for the time being, however, not confirmed) about the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions by Washington.
Analyzing the above, we can conclude that active hostilities in the Avdeyevka industrial zone are considered by Kiev as a chance to enlist the support of the current owner of the Oval Office. However, if help from across the ocean does not come, for Ukrainian politicians Donald Trump will obviously become an accomplice to the separatists, whom the people's representatives kindly call the militia forces of Novorossia. However, it is unlikely that this will affect the image of the American leader for the worse.
