After January 20, Barack Hussein Obama finally ceased to be a “lame duck” and became an ex-president. During the eight years that he was in power, the situation in the world has changed a lot. Many Americans even blame him for the fact that under him the United States lost its leading role in the world. Although, it should be noted, it’s not even his fault or merit, but in regular processes - the world simply cannot be unipolar for many years.
In fact, summing up the Obama administration, you can say: he just led a policy quite traditional for the United States. And in something even surpassed its predecessors.
When the first black president came to power, it was a sensation. However, the color of skin in a truly civilized society in general should not be put at the forefront. But the very fact that, in a country that imposes its own notions of civilization on everyone, was, until recently, monstrous racial discrimination, and was the reason for the special attitude to Obama's victory.
At the same time, he spoke with such slogans that it seemed that Washington’s policy in the world would be much less aggressive. He had high hopes. Many believed that the leadership of the United States would finally focus on internal problems, and would not “carry democracy” everywhere. Obama seemed too brave among American politicians, and he was even prophesied about Kennedy’s fate. But, having come to power, he gave up much of what his election campaign was based on.
January 20 2009 was Obama's inauguration, and on January 21, as promised, he signed a decree to abolish the prison at the Guantanamo military base. This prison is one of the worst in the world, and the world has often (and does) sound the demands for the closure of this modern concentration camp. It would seem that here it is - the fulfillment of the promise. But the fact of the matter is that eight years have passed, Obama has left - and the prison is still functioning.
In addition, 44 th US President promised to stop the war in Iraq. He said that this was the mistake of George W. Bush, and as soon as he, Barack Obama, came to power, he would immediately withdraw his troops from that country. According to his plan, already in the summer of 2009, not a single American soldier was to remain in Iraq. But they came out only in December 2011 of the year. And the situation in this Middle Eastern country as a result of the policies of these two US presidents is worse than ever.
But during the years of his rule, Obama contributed to the escalation of another Bush war - in Afghanistan, sending tens of thousands of troops there. It was under him that American losses in Afghanistan increased sharply. Another bloody wound on the world map.
October 9 2009, Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize - for "strengthening international diplomacy and cooperation between people." He himself said then that he still did not deserve such a high award. And really - she was awarded to him only for promises.
The twist of fate is that due to the fault of this “peacemaker” and his administration, the Libyan Jamahiriya was destroyed, a bloody terrorist war against Syria was unleashed, a Ukrainian Maidan broke out, which led to the war in Donbass. Well, indirectly, the blame lies on the American intelligence services for the Saudi Arabian war (and this is Washington’s closest ally) in Yemen.
Total - on the conscience of this Nobel laureate, called to “strengthen diplomacy and cooperation” - more wars than on the conscience of Bush’s “hawk”, "Distinguished" by the war in Afghanistan and the intervention in Iraq, which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. More than the conscience of Bill Clinton, during his reign, he managed to bomb Iraq for several days and arrange an inhuman massacre of Yugoslavia.
When Obama was called upon to return the Nobel Peace Prize, this “dove” refused. Although the call was very logical due to the fact that because of his policies in the Middle East has spilled too much blood.
One of the main slogans of 44 US President was the “reset” of relations with Russia. Yes, over the eight years of the reign of George W. Bush, these relations have greatly deteriorated. But the paradox is that, under Obama, the “reset” eventually turned out to be something Bush didn’t dream of: anti-Russian sanctions and a new spiral of the Cold War. In fact, one can say that this war is no longer “cold”, but “warm” (the term introduced by the prominent Russian philosopher Alexander Zinoviev).
Of course, the “reset” failed not only because of Obama’s policy, but also because Russia has become ever more determined to defend its interests in the world. But Barak Husseinovich is also not without sin. It was he who did not fulfill most of his promises. It was he who could not resist the pressure of circles seeking not to peace. Maybe just out of fear of repeating the fate of Kennedy, and perhaps simply because his intentions were good, but the essence of the US system itself is that the first person is not a very significant “gear” in a terrible, soulless mechanism...
Time will tell whether the new US president, who also promised drastic changes, can break this mechanism and at least partially meet the expectations associated with his name.
