Pentagon canceled Global Hawk Block 30 program

The US Department of Defense announced that it plans to cancel the Global Hawk 30 program in favor of the Lockheed Martin U-2 aircraft. The Department of Defense made this announcement on January 26, 2012, during a review of upcoming expenses.

The change will affect the Block 30 program, which will be limited to a total of 21 units, of which 14 have already been delivered to the Air Force. The United States Air Force had previously planned to get more 10 aircraft under the existing project.

Northrop Grumman announced that she was disappointed with the Pentagon’s decision and plans to work with the military to evaluate alternatives to completing the program.

The Global Hawk program has demonstrated its usefulness in US military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, as well as its usefulness in humanitarian operations in Japan and Haiti. Just a few months ago, the Pentagon published a memorandum on Global Hawk Block 30: "Continuing the program is important to national security ... there is no alternative to a program that would provide acceptable opportunities to meet the joint military requirement at a lower price."

Global Hawk is a modern solution for providing the army with intelligence information. It provides long-term and sustained observation by collecting information using several sensors located on its platform. Unlike the aging U-2, first introduced in 1950's, which puts pilots at risk, has a limited flight time, and also has limited sensor capabilities. Extending the life of a U-2 also requires additional investments from this program.

Northrop Grumman intends to work with our clients in order to provide the best solutions for our country and our allies. We are pleased with the continued support of the Global Hawk Block 40 system, as well as the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Marine Surveillance System and our other unmanned systems. "

Something I won’t get it, is this another joke, or is it a disinformation, what the hell is U-2, Powers advised something? Or is it really in the states full ass? Somehow it doesn’t add up, it’s all strange, something amers thought a little bad, though ...

It seems not to disinfect, slahal from other sources for this.
In fact, there is no "niche" for it. If either cheaper means, or satellites that are more difficult to "lose".
Left a small park and that's enough.

not a desa, U-2 is still successfully used, only as a tactical reconnaissance. Satellites have one drawback, they are not able to provide video;))) this is only a fantasy of Hollywood screenwriters

Yes, not so much new there
RQ-4 Global Hawk Block 40 - the first flight took place on November 16, 2009, taking off from the aerodrome of the No. 42 Palmdale aircraft plant in California and after 2 hours landing at the Edwards Air Force Base in California. [4] The main difference from previous modifications of Block 20/30 is the multi-platform MP-RTIP radar

In my opinion, the amers calculated that in case of loss of the GPS satellite grouping or at least part of it, or if the communication channels are broken, they, with these drones, will remain without reconnaissance data and without UAVs, and the U-2 will always take off and interruptions in communication, only Delay the delivery of information. And most likely the amers will make a new reconnaissance manned aircraft or will convert something for it.
