Project "ZZ". Trump administration will accuse Russia of the gravest sin
Rex Tillerson, whom Mr. Trump promoted to the high post of US Secretary of State, is not at all burning with the desire to change Washington's cold relations with Moscow to warm ones. And this is despite his close ties with Russian business and some capitalist interests in Moscow. By the way, at one time Mr. Tillerson was honored to talk with Putin himself. He is also known for cooperation with Rosneft and even awarded the Order of Friendship. Drilling on the Russian Arctic shelf was not so long ago the sphere of interest of Tillerson, the ex-head of Exxon Mobil. In addition, earlier Tillerson cautiously criticized the sanctions regime imposed on Moscow by Mr. Obama. In his opinion, the effectiveness of this tool is questionable. However, the latter did not mean the future rejection of the policy of restrictive measures. On the contrary, caution critics clearly indicated the desire of Tillerson to keep everything as it is.
Now Tillerson is inclined (of course, not without Trump's instructions, otherwise it cannot be) to develop precisely the negative line towards Russia. Business is business, and politics is politics. Where is the "personal", the devil himself will not understand.
January 11 the future Secretary of State is to deliver a prepared speech in the Senate. Fully this speech in the press yet, but there are excerpts from it - they were published by the newspaper Washington Post.
Rex Tillerson set out to include Russia in the list of major threats to the United States. Moreover, he accuses Russia of ignoring American interests.
The former executive director of ExxonMobile, Rex Tillerson, noted in an article by Josh Rogin, said in front of senators that Russia is a “threat” to the United States. In addition, NATO allies are “entitled” to be alarmed in the face of aggression. Tillerson is preparing to report even some kind of "turning point" in stories of the world. Old ideas and international norms, which “were well understood and well regulated behavior in the past, have lost their effectiveness nowadays,” the journalist quoted his future speech as a politician who received a copy of his speech.
One of the themes of Tillerson's speech is Russia's intervention in the situation in Europe "and beyond." Here, the likely secretary of state speaks of Russia’s “ignoring” America’s interests, noting that Moscow is seeking to earn “respect” on the world stage, but at the same time its recent actions “are ignoring American interests.”
Tillerson makes it clear to Putin that the United States will be true to its obligations to the allies: “Russia should know that we will be fully responsible in fulfilling our obligations to our allies. Russia should be held accountable for its actions. ”
According to Tillerson, the United States must clearly realize what Russia’s activities are directed at. In his opinion, Moscow today is destabilizing the countries of the near abroad and the Middle East. According to the politician, Russia "presents a threat" by promoting its own interests. She "invaded Ukraine, including" took the Crimea "and supports the Syrian forces," grossly violating the laws of war. " Tillerson is convinced that US NATO allies have the right to be alarmed by "resurgent Russia."
Mr. Tillerson went further than the rather belligerent Barack Obama: he accused the administration of the latter of the unwillingness of the United States to "resist Russian aggression."
According to Tillerson, where Russian actions threaten the United States or its allies, Washington should "push back" Russia.
The future performance of Tillerson, we add, must be considered quite opportunistic. His sudden “rejection” of Russia, more precisely, dissociation from the supposed soft line, despite conversations with Putin and oil, is an attempt to “appease” the senators. Many of them are concerned about Tillerson’s ties with Moscow, and therefore are not ready to accept his candidacy for the post of state secretary. One decision by the president to appoint Tillerson is not enough: the candidature is approved by the Senate. If Tillerson in the Senate does not pass, Trump will have to offer another person - for example, Mitt Romney, who spoke out about Russia definitely back in the 2012 year (“geopolitical enemy number one”). That is why Tillerson, who was afraid to get a minus from the senators, condemned the Russophobic dudu. And to think that this "Duda" dudit in the wrong way that Mr. Trump drew on the stave would be a clear mistake.
As for Mr. Obama, he apparently refers to Russia, according to the well-known saying: the devil is not so terrible as he is painted.
Russia, and China are unlikely to ever compare with the United States, told the outgoing president in a farewell speech to the general public.
"Rivals, such as Russia or China, can not compare with us on the influence in the world until we give up what we stand for and turn into another big country, bullying smaller neighbors," Obama quotes. "Lenta.ru".
Before leaving, we add, Mr. Obama did everything he could to Russia. His latest geopolitical achievement is the inclusion of special personal sanctions for people close to Putin.
As the "New York Times", The Obama administration added five Russians to the blacklist, starting with Comrade Investigations Committee Commander. Bastrykin, who is considered a figure close to the owner of the Kremlin.
Andrei Lugovoy and Dmitry Kovtun were also blacklisted: allegedly these people poisoned Litvinenko in London. The last two on the list are Stanislav Gordievsky and Gennady Plaksin. These officials are accused of concealing the circumstances of the death of Magnitsky.
In fact, the introduction of personal sanctions serves as a kind of “warning” to Donald Trump. The article states that the new sanctions have nothing to do with the alleged hacking of computers during the November elections. New measures are, rather, a symbol of a tense era and a kind of finale of Barack Obama’s foreign policy activities.
Perhaps we add, Barack Obama is counting on the continuity of policy towards Russia. And judging from Tillerson’s statements, as well as from Trump’s contacts with US intelligence agencies about “Russian cyber attacks”, such continuity will take place.
This is what matters: the head of the FBI, James Komi, is completely open, in the Senate, the other day saidthat the resources of both the Democratic and the Republican parties were subjected to Russian cyber attacks. Trump was presented with an intelligence community report stating that Vladimir Putin personally gave the order to conduct a hacker campaign to influence the outcome of the American presidential election. The main objective of the campaign was to undermine people's confidence in the presidential elections. Solved a smaller problem: to discredit the candidate Hillary Clinton.
And finally, the American allies. They really sound the alarm. From Europe, Trump received a letter with natural cries about the Russian threat. Excerpts from it a few hours ago appeared in Washington Post.
The most interesting thing about this document is that the Europeans warned Trump about the behavior of the bad Putin, who "does not strive for the greatness of America." Why Putin should strive for her greatness is not specified.
Many traditional allies of the United States "grieved" some of the prospects previously voiced by Trump, who may well make "a big deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin."
Seventeen current and former officials from several countries of Central and Eastern Europe wrote a letter to Trump (correspondent J. Rogin has). These people insist that Putin has decided to "reverse the democratic world order," and therefore ask Trump to "think twice" before concluding deals with Russia.
"Putin does not seek the greatness of America," the letter says. Its authors appeal to the elected president as “treaty allies” and ask him to “stand firm in defense of common goals and interests.”
Among others, the letter was signed by Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev. Other signatories include the former president of Romania, Traian Basescu, the former president of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the former president of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, and the former Swedish prime minister and foreign minister Karl Bildt.
European leaders welcome Trump’s election and look forward to working with his administration to strengthen the transatlantic alliance. But if Trump decides to “go the other way and join forces with Putin,” he will get “serious negative consequences” that will affect both Europe and the United States.
The authors of the letter advise the Trump administration not to loosen sanctions and not to accept the “silent” Russian “annexation of the Crimea”. Trump is asked to adhere to the "rules of international order."
The fears of the allies, coupled with the “continuity” that BH Obama is counting on, as well as Mr. Tillerson’s ardent anti-Russian speech, speak of Trump’s finished line. The new president, strange as it may sound for his other fans from Russia, will continue the old line in relation to Moscow. The bitter outcome for Mr. Obama may be a partial repeal of Trump decrees relating to the reform of medical programs in the United States. With regard to foreign policy, then Trump, no matter how he tried to follow his pre-election speeches, this policy is not all alone. If the candidate for state secretary does not show a sufficient degree of Russophobia, he simply will not become state secretary. Opinions senators in the United States has not been canceled. And soon we will hear the voice of the militant Mr. McCain.
