There is no doubt that the seventh Indonesian exhibition of the three types of armed forces and the forum was very successful. Every two years, the organization of the exhibition falls on the shoulders of the exhibition company Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, which once again successfully held it in the Indonesian capital 2-5 in November 2016 of the year. About 844 companies from 55 countries, which are located in 30 pavilions, including pavilions of Germany, India, Italy, Australia, South Korea, France, Turkey, USA, UK, Russia, South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, took part in Indo Defense. , The Philippines, Belarus, Indonesia, Ukraine and Slovakia. According to the organizers, the number of exhibitors increased by 25 percent compared to the last exhibition.

«Tank boat ”is being developed by Indonesian companies PT Pindad and UNDIN

The growing number of exhibitors on the Indo Defense 2016 list is real evidence of rising defense spending in a region where annual aggregate growth rates are 4,7 percent, which is expected to be more than 20 billions that military and law enforcement agencies spend from 2017 to 2025 a year. According to the IHS Markit research team, this makes Indonesia the fifth fastest growing budget in the world.

Armored car Marder 1 from the company Rheinmetall

MMWT medium tank developed by FNSS and PT Pindad

At Indo Defense, general interest was aroused in absentia in the medium tank category between the German Marder 1 BMP from Rheinmetall and the modern Modern Medium Tank (MMWT) modern medium tank developed by the Turkish company FNSS and the Indonesian PT Pindad for the Indonesian army. The Marder 1 infantry fighting vehicle was produced for the German army in the 1971-1975 years; The company has already sold surplus modernized BMP Marder 1A3 to Chile and Indonesia, and its newest version of the BMP 1A5 will remain in service for several more years. Two MMWT prototypes have been manufactured to date, but in Jakarta there was no final decision on which model would win the competition at the end of the evaluation phase.

The MMWT medium tank is equipped with a double turret from the Belgian CMI Defense, armed with an 105-mm rifled cannon, the shells for which are delivered by an automatic loader mounted in the rear of the turret, and an 7,62-mm machine gun paired with it. The task of the MMWT is not to seize heavily armed and well-defended main battle tanks, but to fight lighter vehicles, for example, reconnaissance platforms, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and combat support vehicles.

ECA and Verney Carron in the French Pavilion at Indo Defense

France had its own pavilion at the Indo Defense, where the companies were united under the banner of the GICAT defense group and the COGES exhibition organization. A number of French companies, such as ECA, offered their latest drones for mine detection, and such as Verney Carron, their non-lethal weapons, such as FlashBall and Flash Compact or LG56 grenade launchers. Ouvry has unveiled its latest protective overalls and the Bollé family of impact-resistant goggles. The large defense company Defense Conseil Internationale also exhibited in the French pavilion.

Commander of the Indonesian army, General MULYONO with the director of the Asian branch of the company Nexter

The Nexter 105 lightweight towed howitzer LG1 has become one of the French stars in Jakarta. Launched by a light vehicle by helicopter or even on a parachute, the LG1 cannon is the lightest 105-mm assault artillery gun in the world and is ideally suited to provide fire support for a rapid reaction force. The 105 LG1 cannon is currently in service with the ground forces of Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Belgium, Canada and Colombia.

Indonesia has already taken delivery of the 20 105-mm LG1 light guns and Nexter Systems hopes that the second contract for the supply of additional systems will take place in the near future.

Nexter took the opportunity and presented its 155-mm CAESAR 52-caliber XNUMX self-propelled howitzer at the exhibition. It is already in service with the armed forces of France, baptized in Mali and Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, it is also in service today in Thailand, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

The program of the Indonesian army to update the traditional artillery capabilities provides for the acquisition of new guns with greater range and accuracy. They must be deployed in two shelves for 18 systems in each plus one for combat training.

NERVA family of mini-robots for surveillance and reconnaissance

Also presented was the FINDART fire control system from Nexter, its family of artillery ammunition, as well as the family of mini-robots for NERVA surveillance and reconnaissance from Nexter Robotics. Lightweight and easy to deploy, the Nerva mini robot is a rugged, weatherproof and shockproof remote controlled system. Its flexible platform can easily accept about 2 dedicated modules to handle a wide range of tasks.

Commander of the Indonesian army, General MULYONO with the director of the Asian branch of the company Nexter

While Dassault Aviation was modestly present at the show with its Rafale model on display at the Thales booth, the latter introduced many interesting weapon systems. These are, for example, Monie and Lucie night vision cameras (operating in the 3,5 μm range), ground tactical radio stations, both manual and portable, the new TALTICOS combat control system, already in service with the Indonesian fleet. A new variant of the STARStreak rocket was shown with an advanced ELMM laser non-contact fuse. Thales's Amascos system, currently installed on the Indonesian Armed Forces CN235 MPA lightweight turboprop military transport aircraft, combines a powerful tactical command subsystem with the latest sensor systems to ensure the success of reconnaissance missions and naval patrols. The system now has a definite advantage in the form of new lightweight work panels, which are especially suitable for operations with the latest versions of the Searchmaster multifunctional radar.

Airbus booth at Indo Defense

Airbus presented the A400M and C295 transport aircraft models and the H225M helicopter at the exhibition; the company hopes to find more customers in Asia for all of them. Malaysia is already armed with a strategic military transport aircraft A400M, and Thailand has become one of the last customers of the H225M Caracal helicopter. At this show, another aircraft from Airbus was presented, this time in the Indonesian pavilion. The production of the Airbus Military C212 light military transport aircraft was transferred to Indonesia in the middle of 2013, after the company merged with PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) in 2011. The latest C212, assembled in Spain, was supplied by the Vietnamese naval police at the end of 2013. In 42 of the year, a total of X-NUMX C-477 aircraft were manufactured for 212 operators. According to the manufacturer, they were used in "various tasks, ranging from transportation of goods to artificial rainfall, observation of search and rescue." Today, less than 92 C-300 aircraft fly to 212 countries; the largest part (40 aircraft) in Indonesia, where the predecessors of PTDI (IPTN and AI) assembled the aircraft under license from the 70-x and 70-s. This Indonesian state-owned company regularly supplied subassemblies for CN-80 to Airbus Military. Today, it is making further upgrades to the previous C-235-212 model, an NC-400 version with a glass cabin and more powerful Honeywell TPE212 engines. The NC-331 is one of the very few modern light cargo aircraft that can compete with Chinese and Russian systems.

Vice-President of Indonesia with a representative of the French company DCNS, who explains to him the importance of the Scorpéne submarine for the fleet

The French shipbuilding company DCNS, specializing in warships, introduced the Scorpene submarine, designed to perform the entire range of tasks of modern multi-purpose submarines and fully adapted to operate in the difficult conditions of Indonesian waters, both in the open sea and in shallow water. A model of the new-generation multipurpose Gowind 2500 corvette, a reliable and well-equipped in terms of electronics and weaponry of the ship with excellent anti-submarine combat capabilities, was also presented.

CZ booth at Indo Defense

The Czech company Ceska Zbrojovska was also represented at the Indo Defense exhibition. Known for a long time manufacturer of small weapons presented on the South Asian market the latest version of its famous assault rifle CZ Bren. Retaining the best features of its predecessor, the CZ 805 Bren, the new model Bren 2 was designed to meet the highest requirements of special forces and armed forces operating in different parts of the world. The rifle under the NATO caliber 5.56x45 mm is designed for operators who need lightweight flexible and absolutely reliable weapons in extreme situations.

The Bren 2 is also distinguished by a two-way fuse-translator of firing modes, which has 4 positions corresponding to the fuse, a single, queue with a cut-off 2 shot and continuous queues. For Indonesia, there is a definite meaning. The country is island. It is easier to have a flotilla of such boats than tanks and artillery on every island. He drove a group of boats to the island and dolby with tank guns over the areas, cover the landing. Or do you say that a 30mm gun, even automatic, is comparable in terms of firepower and firing range to a 120mm tank gun?

For the region is very relevant, the fight against piracy in coastal waters. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, double bass thriving, including drugs, gangs arrange whole sea battles among themselves. A high-speed combat armored boat is a big plus for the security forces.

Look at the map of Indonesia ... I think for a country consisting of many islands and islets, the thing is more than in demand. You won’t especially fight tanks there.
