Russia is developing a substitute simulator "Surrogate"
Currently, this project is being consulted with military experts.
The Surrogate Complex is equipped with a lithium-ion battery. This submarine simulator is capable of providing exercises lasting up to 15-16 hours, and all this time it will reproduce the maneuvering of an enemy submarine, including at high speeds. Relatively large sizes (length about 17 meters) and the ability to carry towed antennas for various purposes will allow realistically reproduce the physical fields of the enemy's submarine - acoustic and electromagnetic, ”said the Central Design Bureau.
It is noted that "the modular design of the simulator will allow to change its functionality:" Surrogate "will be able to simulate both non-nuclear and nuclear submarines, as well as conduct mapping areas and exploration."
“Today, for training or testing, it is necessary to engage combat submarines, separating them from solving basic tasks. Using an uninhabited simulator will avoid this and reduce the cost of the exercise. In addition, the "crewless" boat reduces the risks, while maintaining realism. This unit will be easy to use and low cost of maintenance and upgrades. Now we are consulting with representatives of the Russian Navy so that the simulator fully meets the needs of sailors, ”the agency said Igor Vilnit, director general of the Central Design Bureau.
The design bureau also does not exclude interest to the product from foreign customers.
Developer Help: "The displacement of an autonomous uninhabited submarine Surrogat will be about 40 tons, cruising range about 600 miles at a speed of 5 nodes, maximum speed above 24 nodes, maximum immersion depth - 600 meters. ”
