From the first days of the war, the capital of the USSR began to prepare for defense. The institutions and factories, embassies and ministries were evacuated. Marshal Zhukov was summoned to Moscow from Leningrad to organize the defense and stop the fascist offensive. According to the plan of the German operation "Typhoon" all the power of the strike of the army group "Center" was heading for Moscow. Zhukov needed reserves and time, which he did not have. And the German units received reinforcements. Autumn rains began which interfered with both armies. October 17 Moscow announced the state of siege, and the slogan "Not a step back" sounded as tough as possible.
