Romania will order 4 new corvette SIGMA
“SIGMA (Ship Integrated Geometrical Modularity Approach) corvettes were developed by the Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding. Due to the modular design, these ships are built relatively quickly and can have different sizes and types of weapons. Thus, SIGMA 10514-type corvettes built for Indonesia are 105 m long and 14 m wide, and SIGMA 9813, purchased by the Moroccan Navy, are 98 m long and 13 m wide.
It is planned to spend about € 1 billion for the purchase of ships. Their construction will be carried out in Romanian Galati at a shipyard owned by the Dutch company Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the contract will be signed "in the very near future," and the first ship in the Navy will appear in 2,5 already.
According to the military, "new ships will provide security in the Black Sea, as well as be used to patrol and conduct search and rescue operations."
It is not yet known what type of SIGMA corvettes will be ordered. However, the Defense Ministry said that they will be equipped with various classes of missiles, artillery and torpedo weapons. If we talk about the ship SIGMA 10514, then it is armed with “MBDA MICA anti-aircraft missiles, MBDA Exocet MM40 SSM anti-ship missiles, XtoNMX 76 XMNUMX Super Rapid anti-ship missiles, two 62-mm MG automatic weapons, and one of them; reports the resource.
