SPG 2С3 "Acacia" in Syria

In the Soviet army, "Akatsiya" was adopted for use in 1971.

Installation weight - 27,5 tons, weapons - 152-mm howitzer 2А33, firing range - to 17, 4 km. Ammunition - 46 shots. 520-strong engine allows you to reach speeds up to 60 km / h. Cruising - up to 500 km, crew - 4 person.

“Syrian crews note its relative simplicity, unpretentiousness in operation. Powerful forty-kilogram shells can cause serious damage to the enemy’s fortifications, especially when “Acacia” hits direct fire, ”writes the author of the article, Roman Katkov.

“Of course, during the long years of the war it was not without losses, but they are relatively small. Therefore, these SAUs continue to take an active part in the defeat of terrorist groups, ”the author concludes.

"More goods, good and different!" (The slogan of the times of deficit in the USSR). Really - maximum use of both "old stocks" and testing new developments in real conditions. The machine must work because it will rust. I think that everything is for the benefit of both us and the Syrians. May God grant them victory.

Soviet weapons are made so high quality and ergonomic that after many years after its release continues to destroy enemies without fail, as new.

... shells are capable of causing serious damage to enemy fortifications, especially when the Acacia fires with direct fire ...

Again, the famous Syrian direct fire from this type of weapon. I understand the weak training. It's time to break the habit of such a method of shooting.

When there are no other options .. or the destruction of fortifications. KB2 was designed for this in due time.

at least KV armor was normal for that time.
And "Acacia" has one "name" reservation.

And how do you imagine the battle in the city, where each house is fortified. PTs seem to be absent as a species. Remains artillery on direct fire.

The matter may not be in training, but in the consumption of ammunition - when working with PDOs, they require almost an order of magnitude more.

Ours, during the storming of Grozny, also drove 2s3 for direct fire in the city. This cannon with a shell of 43,56 kg sent weight to the upper floors of buildings, which the tanks could not do because of the small elevation angle of the barrel. Well, the power of a tank shell is much less.

Here, apparently, gentlemen, Jews wrote about the inefficiency of aviation and multiple launch rocket launchers in a city against relatively small (scattered) terrorist groups (detachments).
And with artillery like, just aim at the target and hammer it for sure. So these 152-mm self-propelled guns 2S3 "Acacia" should be very relevant and sow the day.
It is clear that the armor does not meet modern realities, but at least protects against small arms and fragments.

By the way, it would be time for Vestnik Mordovii, as the newspaper Pravda, to assign the Order of Lenin

KV is a tank. Acacia is an artillery mount. Do not confuse.

To be completely accurate, then HF is artillery tank.
And in the tasks of the artillery tank, the heavy tank, assault and artillery systems were bizarrely intertwined. For the arttank had, acting in conjunction with the linear tanks, to support them, working from the second line for the discovered targets - the positions of the anti-tank missile, fortified with OT, etc. (which is closer to TT and stormSAU). And also - in the offensive, to work with PDO on accumulations of infantry and equipment and on artillery positions (which is closer to artillery system).

What's the use? Syrians are bad warriors, and even worse gunners! They with a self-propelled guns hit direct fire as a rule ...

I would argue that the Syrians are not good at fighting in urban conditions, not every well-armed and equipped army will be able to conduct such battles, just even see how the Syrian tankmen and their command are coordinating their actions.

At one time, I had the honor to serve as a gun commander on such a beauty! The machine for its time is magnificent, made specifically for war, nothing more! Although, I think, it is still relevant in many aspects!

    He brings it)))
I'm not an artilleryman, but when you get into it, after 80s or infantry fighting vehicles, in the "tower" (there on the left, who sits with them, the artillerymen, I don't know, in the tank, this is the gunner), there is no place for the fur. The impression is that you are looking somewhere into the abyss (when you look down, from the "height" of a regular place)))) So much space after the "boxes" that.
But this howitzer inserts most of all. Her breech, compared to the tank one, looks just impressive)
    That's when she shoots)))
Well, it’s better to see how he shoots than how, like the fact that after a shot flies ... The Lord was merciful!

I won’t insert it - I already have one warning for foul language in the video. smile
