BAE Systems will supply Sweden with BvS10 ATVs

BAE Systems has announced that it has entered into a contract with Sweden for the supply of armored BvS10 all-terrain vehicles. Under the terms of the contract, BAE Systems will supply 48 vehicles and an extended package of initial support measures.

According to the company, the contract for BvS10 was 5 for January 2012. It provides for the possibility of supplying more 127 vehicles and an even more comprehensive support package, which may include support in a theater of operations. Initially, the contract is 65 million pounds sterling, however, taking into account the whole option, the amount can grow more than three times.

The Swedes announced a contract back in June 2011. The contract for BvS10 includes improved ergonomics and crew protection, integration of a remotely controlled station weapons Protector, radio communications and combat control systems. There will also be installed smoke grenade launchers, creating a circular protection of the car.

BAE Systems reported that 48 BvS10s all-terrain vehicles will be delivered to the troops in the options carrier, commander, ambulance and logistics equipment. They will be manufactured at the newly renovated production facilities at Örnsköldsvik. The first deliveries are expected in October 2012 of the year, and the extreme vehicle will be delivered in November 2013 of the year.

Sweden will join the UK, the Netherlands and France, whose armed forces are already using BvS10.

And, after all, the equipment of the Swedes is being bought by the one that they intend to use in the Arctic! ...

The scope of use is wide, here is from Wiki:
The BV 206 S 10 is not to be confused with the BV 206 or BV 206 S; it is a larger, fully armored vehicle, which is fully adapted for swimming in water, based on the principle of a hinged, swiveling system of two cabs, which is typical of all Haegglunds ground vehicles. It was originally developed specifically for British Marines and was called the Viking. The vehicle underwent a variety of tests, various improvement programs conducted by Major Jez Hermer MBE RM were applied to it, before the Royal Marines ordered 108 vehicles for future use, with delivery starting in 2005.

The UK currently uses three vehicle options: the Troop Transport Option (TCV), adapted to carry 2 x crews and 10 x passengers; Command version (CV), which can carry 2 x crews plus up to 8 x passengers with a rear cockpit equipped as an advanced digital communication platform, and a repair and recovery vehicle (RRV) capable of transporting a crew and 4 x mechanical specialists. The RRV rear cab contains a HIAB crane, a fully equipped portable workshop, an air compressor, and a 9-ton payload hoist with hydraulic anchors. All three options can be transported by air using the CH-47 Chinook helicopter (either as a whole, or separately the rear and front parts), they are also fully equipped for swimming, they are able to sail in various seas when fully loaded with passengers and cargo.

74 units of the BV 206 S 10 were ordered by the Netherlands Marines and they will be delivered. The main difference from the earlier version of the BV 206 is the more powerful 5.9-liter Cummins engine, improved clearance and a newly developed chassis, improved steering that provides a significant increase in speed and comfort on the road and when driving off-road, as well as an increase carrying capacities (up to 5 tons), as well as the ability to add various additional modular subsystems, such as additional weapons, weapon systems, cargo replacement facilities and cargo platforms.

33 British VIKINGS were used in Afghanistan in late summer 2006, when the Royal Marines formed parachute military units in Helmand, because of their ability to travel at high speeds in difficult terrain. Their advantage also lies in the fact that they are too light to activate most of the anti-tank mines of those species, especially common in these areas. In addition, they were equipped with active protection devices for armored vehicles (anti-grenade launchers), which had already proved their effectiveness in the combat situation in Iraq.

Well, it’s still not known how he will behave in the Arctic, although he’s not bad in appearance! If the performance characteristics are similar to those of our VITYAZ, then the car is not bad.
