November 15 - Recruit's Day
The day of the recruit appeared in the calendar on the basis of the order of the President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin from 1992. From an order 24 years ago:
Introduce Conscript Day in order to increase the nationwide significance and prestige of military service, improve the military-patriotic education of young people.
If today these are completely everyday words, taking into account the fact that the state conducts systematic work both to popularize the service in the Armed Forces and other power structures, then in 1992, the very fact of the appearance of such an order looked symbolic. Older and middle-aged people remember very well how things were with the prestige of military service after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This prestige was actually reduced to zero. The personnel officers who took the oath to one state suddenly found themselves in another state, hardly digesting the information that there was no longer a single, big Motherland; instead, fragments that have been declared "gained freedom and independence."
It is explainable that the officers, who turned out to be in absolutely new realities, like the entire population of the country, by definition could not motivate the younger generation to defend the Fatherland. The call went as if by inertia, but the fact remained: young people at that time clearly did not have much enthusiasm from the very fact of military service, since it was difficult even to admit to myself which country needed to be protected and from whom, if it suddenly turned out that "all around are friends."
It was a real blow to the fundamentals of security, to the moral character of the army, to life values and landmarks. Against this background, the decree on the need to increase the prestige of military service was very significant, only the implementation of this Yeltsin decree faced the grim truth of 90's, when the army of new statesmen trampled into the mud day after day and watered it.
Almost a quarter of a century after the appearance of a draftee on the Day calendar, the attitude to the Armed Forces in our country is completely different. And this was achieved at the cost of incredible efforts from both the state and society.
When in schools and vocational schools in the same 90s, in essence, the discipline of basic military training was destroyed, enthusiasts among teachers remained in different parts of the country who, despite throwing educational institutions with Soros’s educational debris, continued educational activities on the principles of respect for man designed to protect the homeland. In many schools, veterans of the Great Patriotic War at that time were still working as teachers of the NVP (DP, OBZH) —understood, far from young, of course, people who did their best to preserve continuity and give courage to the new generation. These are people with a steel rod who have allowed to preserve the grain of understanding the importance of military service, protecting the borders of the Fatherland, protecting the interests of the state and the people.
On the Day of the draftee I want to say such enthusiasts, real pedagogical devotees, a special thank you!
The day of the draftee today is an opportunity for the younger generation to touch not only what is called military pathos, but also to see the military life with their own eyes. The military commissariats organize excursions for schoolchildren and students to military units, where young people have the opportunity to see with their own eyes how the modern conscripts are serving. After all, it is better, as they say, to see it once, than to hear about it a hundred times, even from the media or from the mouth of your friends who have already gone through an army school of life.
Not only young men, but also girls visit the territories of military units, where they are shown both the conditions of life and the weapons that are in the arsenal of one or another military unit. Young people can ask questions of interest and receive answers to them both from officers involved in the activities of the Recruit's Day and from military personnel undergoing “urgent”.
Questions from tomorrow's draftees and their relatives come to us - on the website "Military Review". One of the most frequent questions is related to the "possibility of extending the service life on conscription." Some sources spread rumors that the supposedly "just about" service life will change from the current 12 months to almost 2,5 years. Once again, we have to say that this is nothing more than rumors. Neither the Ministry of Defense, nor the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nor other power structures have plans to increase the service life of conscription. Exactly one year - this is exactly the time now, and as such it will remain in the near future.
On this day, the Military Review team appeals to all young people who, as part of this (autumn) draft campaign, will join the ranks of the Armed Forces. It is for you to forge the security of the Fatherland as part of military formations, and it is in your hands to increase the prestige of the Russian army and fleet. Do not miss your chance to serve the Motherland, because this is one of the most important duties of any man as a citizen of the Russian Federation.
