Innovative pistol Kel-Tec PMR-30

One of the exhibits of the exhibition of weapons Shot Show 2010, which deserves close examination, is a pistol, made with regard to innovative technologies from the company Kel-Tec, which received the name PMR-30.

Benefits of PMR-30

This presented copy combines such a complex of outstanding parameters: low weight, reasonable price, economical production, advanced technology and high firepower. So, for example, the capacity of its holder is 30 22 Magnum cartridges.

PMR-30 is a very unusual version of personal weapons regarding the design and location of nodes and mechanisms. And still, the designers left as a safety system a variant of a safety switch that was tested for a large amount of time. The working elements of this mechanism are on both sides of the slide frame, allowing you to combine the snatching of the weapon from the holster while simultaneously removing the weapon from protection.

Little about theory

In the world of connoisseurs of small arms there are various points of view, including diametrically opposed, with respect to such types of unusual weapons as PMR-30, and also with respect to the FN Five-seveN (Belgium) 5,7-mm caliber, something similar to it. The dispute is about the correctness of the use of small-caliber ammunition in such a melee weapon with a high speed of the beginning of the movement of the bullet and a powerful energy release. Some opponents argue about the advantages, among them - increased cage capacity, small recoil force and withdrawal from the aiming line, obtaining an advantageous, flat trajectory of the ammunition, improved accuracy over long distances, and accuracy. In addition, when using armor-piercing ammunition, there is a high penetrability of the obstacle. Other apologists from the theory of small arms argue about a small inhibitory effect of a bullet when it comes into contact with the purpose and obstacle of just such samples in comparison with others, which, in their opinion, negatively characterizes this type of personal weapon. For clarity, it should be noted that at present there are no common criteria for assessing the impact of a bullet on a target, and it is unlikely that anyone will challenge the effectiveness of the American chuck. 45 ACP. In any case, the development trend of small arms of this type is the most promising today.
A fresh look at the PMR-30 sample immediately notices the unusualness of the threaded connections applied by the designers to fasten the frame parts of the polymers. The same compounds were used in other types of weapons from this company, for example, the SU-16 carbine and the RFB rifle.

There will be no discussion on the braking effect of small-caliber ammunition and the advisability of using this type of weapon in army or police units. It is only about a fundamentally new type of pistol, released by one of the well-known companies in the US small arms market. According to many experts and individuals, not all weapons should be considered as a military or police order for its use. A large majority of people who buy weapons on the basis of the rights of a US citizen use it for plinking, entertaining target shooting and for the realization of their personal interests, as a hobby. In a different way, for the sake of active recreation of weapons lovers
Another part of the lovers of small arms rightly believe that weapons should be actively produced to realize the right of a citizen to defense and to self-defense. Therefore, the release of such products for a truly civilian purposes is simply necessary.

The Kel-Tec PMR-30 pistol presented at the arms exhibition was designed for this purpose.

Innovative trends

Kel-Tec in the arms and ammunition market is positioned as an enterprise that in their developments boldly introduces advanced technologies. Suffice it to recall such weapon models as the Kel-Tec SU-22 and SU-16CA compact rifles, which are distinguished by their low weight due to the use of alloys and polymer compounds with a reasonable ratio "price - quality".

From the number of products relating to weapons with a short barrel, this company produces inexpensive and very popular in America. 9mm compact pistols P-32, P-11 and PF-9.

In recent years, the emergence of a weapon with a short barrel and an aiming system of a new type with fiber-optic rods in the basic configuration has become a new trend. PMR-30 is also equipped with such an aiming system, which helps to conduct aimed fire during rapid shooting.

Design Features PMR-30

A more detailed study of the features of the device PMR-30. The frame of the gun structurally consists of two parts - the right and left side, which are connected by a threaded connection - with hexagon bolts and nuts. This greatly simplifies the process of manufacturing the gun, reducing its cost. This decision is quite revolutionary in its essence, if applied to military and sports weapons. In the recent past, George Kellgren, chief designer of Kel-Tec, applied this fastening system in his designs - the SUB-2000 carbine and others, later it remained unchanged in all the new models of carbines of this company. The elements of the pistol mechanism, such as the frame, the casing, the safety levers, the trigger, the clip catch and the clip itself, are made of polymeric materials reinforced with fiberglass cloth.

On the lower base of the front part of the frame, special grooves are made, which serve to mount on them devices for firing, for example, laser pillars and auxiliary illumination. The operation scheme of the PMR-30 automatics is designed for the action of a semi-free shutter. The bolt system and the receiver part are made of 4140 steel used in the weapons industry. The pistol casing and the bolt part in this case are structurally executed as independent mechanisms, the casing being made of polymeric materials, like the frame, and fastened with a screw connection to the bolt part. Grooves along the length of the barrel are cut out to reduce weight and cool this part of the weapon well. The ammunition is sent from the holder to the chamber through the incoming action of the cartridge feed guide. On the same guide and placed the bolt spring delay.

PMR-30 device

The small weight and simplicity of the device and the use of this weapon, a small return in the production of a shot make it possible to use this gun for popular firing, training, as well as for self-defense for the entire US population.

The PMR-30 is equipped with two screw-type return springs of different diameters and opposite turns located on the 1 console console. USM hammer type, one-act. Details of the firing mechanism (trigger, sear and reflector) are arranged in a single block of high quality weapon steel, which undoubtedly facilitates its maintenance. Such a USM layout system was used by Fyodor Tokarev in his TT pistol., And then by Charles Charles when developing the Mle.1935A pistol in 1935 year. Descent with a warning sound. The force during the descent reaches from 1,6 to 2,3 kg. Protection against accidental triggering of the trigger system of the pistol is carried out with the help of a double-sided flag-fuse acting on both sides, the levers of which are conveniently designed on both sides of the frame, above the back of the handle. At the upper position of the levers - the fuse is installed, at the lower - disconnected. It creates certain conveniences when using it.

Firing production

The PMR-30 Pistol is equipped with a Virdinian X5L targeting unit that joins it. It consists of a flashlight and a laser pillar. X5L, mounted on the gun on the guide brackets on the bottom surface of the front of the frame.

PMR-30 uses two extractors instead of one for ejection of spent cartridges, which aims to increase the reliability of the use of mechanisms. When making the last shot, the slide delay leaves the shutter in the rear position. The gun is equipped with a buffer plate to mitigate recoil. The clip latch is located in the lower section of the pistol grip. The sighting mechanisms include a fly made of aluminum, installed in a dovetail groove with the ability to adjust the side component of the shooting, and an unregulated rear sight, made as a single part of the polymer casing. The front sight and rear sight are equipped with fiber optic multicolored rods to increase the speed of aiming. Characteristics of the shot: with the mass of the bullet 2,6 g its initial speed will be 375 m / s, with the energy expended by the shot 439 J.

The standard .22 Magnum cartridges have much better characteristics in penetrating bullet dynamics than the more common in America hunting and sports .22LR (5,6-mm. At the same time, they have a low recoil force, like when shooting with a PMR- 3.

Weapons feature

Still, the main difference between the PMR-30 is the number of rounds in the cage - 30 ammunition .22 Magnum. This amount of ammunition is unnecessary even for military weapons. The clip of an analog weapon, the Belgian Five-seveN contains a third less, and the price of a pistol is much higher. According to experts, the .22 Magnum cartridge, also referred to as .22 WMR, is characterized as a very effective ammunition. Despite the small caliber, it is supplied with strong penetrating power and full disclosure of expansive bullets with a small recoil force. Its price is certainly higher than the price of sporting and hunting ammunition. But it is much cheaper than the generally accepted 9mm Parabellum cartridges, not to mention the cartridges of a different caliber. Shooting the .22 Magnum PMR-30 cartridges, especially the fleeting ones, is not only effective, but it also looks beautiful because of the strong flames flying out of the barrel of the gun, which leads to the ecstasy of the supporters of scheduling. According to experts, shooting at a high pace, or rather, its results, do not depend on the muzzle flame.

Weapons for self-defense or ...

The recoil in the production of a shot .22 Magnum ammunition from this pistol is several times less than in sports or recreational shooting. Let's say so, the return, as such, is practically absent. Even with a fast pace of fire, the gun does not leave the line of sight, as a result of which high accuracy is obtained when firing. The small weight of the weapon is also the dignity of the pistol, along with the large capacity of the holder. Its mass is 555,7 g. A small mass allows the constant carrying of weapons, in any accessible place. If this weapon is not quite suitable for entertaining shooting, the 30 holders of the holder for the gun owner are just a joy, because its rate of fire and accuracy are well worth it

Why is there no shutter lag? This is a flaw.

The shutter delay in the article is mentioned in at least two places.

I saw both places in the text and the shutter return key in the photo. But I also saw in the video that after the last cartridge the bolt went forward and only after cocking manually remained in the back position. Or is it so provided?

In fact, I watched the video as it is. It can not be provided. Apparently I did not get to the delay. Design flaw?

Is someone diligently promoting this company? And are these materials posted here for a fee?
A very strange weapon, and certainly not a weapon for self-defense. rather for the liquidators, although it’s a bit big in size here ...

It’s me who is "so diligently promoting" this company. I found information about interesting samples of weapons from this company - I gave assignments to write articles on this topic ...

Ps. What if the fee is paid, it is necessary to hint in Kel-Tec fellow

do not confuse a private company and a state-owned enterprise ... and, in addition, the laws of the United States in the field of possession of weapons powerfully stimulate both its development and production ... soon even a graphic representation of weapons will be criminally prosecuted in Russia ... about development and production in general better not to remember .. there are absolutely no conditions ..

You will be responsible for such a series under the law on exceeding self-defense measures. That is the problem of small caliber, one bullet is not enough, and two are many.

An excellent gun, don’t say it, I liked the rate of fire (almost like from a machine gun), and the trunk horizon line practically did not change.

The machine is interesting, but I would like to comment not on the product, but on the article. Unfortunately, there are often materials in which the author (or rather the translator who signed up as the author) does not bother to edit the machine translation normally, or to use the terms accepted in Russian in his own translation. For example - in Russian the expression "inhibiting action" is not used, they say "stopping action". Further, through a dash, the term from the article is a Russian-language term. "USM of one-act action" - "single action", "return force" - "recoil", "ejection energy" - "muzzle energy", etc. There are also just absurdities: "incoming action of the cartridge feed guide", "analog clip weapons ". Maybe someone will say that I'm just finding fault - but this is elementary literacy. Such materials are very difficult to read, the impression is that you read the English text and translate on the go.

Interestingly, it was he who didn’t delay at the end of the shooting, or was it just that there was no delay?

Why do you think that he didn’t catch the delay? There’s a bolt and lever for the bolt delay a little to the left of the fuse. There are a lot of small details on the diagram, as civilian weapons can be the same, but in battle if you only keep in an airtight holster
