Ukrainian environmentalists: Radioactive waste is brought under Kiev from the territory of 18 regions of the country
Director of the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center Volodymyr Boreyko today reports that radioactive waste is brought to Kyiv and the region from almost all regions of Ukraine. At the same time, we are talking not only about those regions where Ukrainian nuclear power plants are located.
Recall that not so long ago, the government of Ukraine decided not to pay Russia for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel and decided that Ukraine would cope with the "fading" garbage on its own. The price of the issue was equal to 200 million dollars a year. Now the price of the issue is the nuclear safety (or rather, the danger) of the European continent ...
In particular, they decided to use the so-called "wet" storage, when SNF is placed in water. At the same time, as noted by experts in the field of nuclear energy, it was not even calculated how long spent nuclear fuel could be safely stored in this way. The water temperature in a number of such “storages” is already rising above 90 degrees, which in the near future can lead to extremely negative consequences.

At the same time, it is noted that as of today, as many as 300 companies are registered in Ukraine, calling themselves “spent nuclear fuel utilizers”. The actual absence of unified requirements, regulatory documents and considerable funds led to such a fruitfulness of "utilizers". The Ministry of Ecology of Ukraine informs that it is necessary to conduct an audit among the “disposal” companies, since most of them understand the “utilization” of spent nuclear fuel as burying it in the ground ... And not only in the territory of the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but even within the city agglomeration of the Ukrainian capital.
