News of the project "Sarmat"

49
Currently, in the interests of the strategic missile forces, a new project of a heavy-duty intercontinental ballistic missile is being developed. The result of the current work should be the emergence and adoption for service of the RS-28 "Sarmat" product, one of the main tasks of which will be the replacement of existing weapons of a similar class. For obvious reasons, industry and the military are in no hurry to announce the various details of the new project. However, some information still becomes public. Not long ago, the general public gained access to some new data.

The development of the project "Sarmat" is engaged in the State Rocket Center. Academician V.P. Makeeva (Miass). Not so long ago, this company has updated its official website, adding a number of interesting data. Among other things, on the site during the update, some data appeared on the Sarmat project, as well as the first official image of a promising Russian ICBM. It should be recognized that not too much information has been published, however, it also solidly complements the existing picture.

According to the short article “Sarmat Development Experimental Design”, published in the Battle Missile Systems section of the site, work on a new project began in accordance with the government decree “On the State Defense Order for 2010 and the Planning Period for 2012-2013.” In June 2011, the SRC them. Makeeva and the Ministry of Defense signed a state contract for conducting the ROC with the Sarmat cipher. VG was appointed General Designer. Degtyar, chief designer - Yu.A. Kaverin. The aim of the project is to create a promising strategic missile system designed for use in the Russian nuclear forces with the aim of ensuring and effectively deterring a potential enemy.

The official image of the rocket "Sarmat" from GRTS them. Makeeva / Makeyev.ru

An image of a promising ballistic missile is now attached to the short description of the work. It does not differ in large size or detail, but it is still of interest. The depicted product has a cylindrical body of large elongation, on the walls of which you can see the characteristic bands, apparently indicating the power set. The rocket has a lively head fairing, and its tail part is equipped with an additional cylindrical unit covering the power unit. The case also has four prominent belts covering it. Also on the rocket, namely on its head, there are various thickenings, hatches, etc.

The first official image "Sarmat" is able to confirm some of the existing guesses, as well as refute others. Thus, a cylindrical unit on the tail of the product may be a powder accumulator of pressure necessary for the implementation of a “cold start”. The size and proportions of the hull suggest the use of a three-stage architecture with a separate step of breeding warheads. Such a layout of missiles was actively used in previous domestic projects.

It is not possible to establish any other details of the project from the published data. However, some features of the appearance of the PC-28 rocket have already been announced. For example, it is known about the use of liquid rocket engines at all levels. Taking into account the class of the rocket, the estimated starting weight is estimated at 100 or more. Various officials pointed to a throw-in weight around 5-10 t. As combat equipment, it is planned to use several warheads with special charges that can be maneuvered.

It is noteworthy that the lack of official information leads to the most daring assessments that are of particular interest. So, October 24 TASS news agency published an article "Grozny" Sarmat ": the heir to Voivode will overcome any PRO, in which military reviewer Viktor Litovkin announced his assessment of the appearance and characteristics of the PC-28. He recalled that the launch weight of the new rocket could be at the level of 100 t with an 10 tonne bombardment mass. Being significantly lighter than the existing P-36М2 Voyevoda missiles, the new Sarmat will have to differ from them in enhanced performance.

V. Litovkin claims that the PC-28 product will be able to send warheads to a range of about 17 thousand km against 10 thousand km from the "Governor". Such characteristics, in particular, will allow the missiles to be sent to the target via the South Pole, which will ensure the effect of surprise and exclude interception by the created anti-missile systems.

Also, a TASS military observer expects an increase in combat qualities in comparison with existing complexes. P-36M2 can carry only 10 warheads. In his opinion, the divided Sarmat warhead can carry at least a dozen warheads with individual guidance. 150-300 kt warheads will be able to be mounted on the breeding stage on the principle of "bunch of grapes". The block should be reset in accordance with the flight program, at the moment of reaching the required trajectory.

V. Litovkin assumes that warheads will approach their targets at hypersonic speeds greater than M = 17. In this case, the unit will be able to maneuver at the rate and height, further complicating tracking and interception. In this case, the combat unit will not be susceptible to interception by existing or prospective anti-missile systems, including those using space-based elements. Referring to unnamed rocket engineers, TASS observer claims that Sarmat simply will not notice the enemy’s missile defense system.

Also in the TASS article it is mentioned that the media have already published the possible designation of a promising hypersonic war unit: such a product is called Yu-71. Improving the accuracy of hitting the target, according to V. Litovkin, will allow the creation of nuclear warheads with a reduced charge power, as well as the development of kinetic systems of destruction that destroy the target only at the expense of their energy.

Also in the article "Grozny" Sarmat ": the heir to" Voivod "will overcome any missile defense system" provides approximate estimates of the quantitative aspects of the future rearmament of the Strategic Missile Forces. It is alleged that after the cessation of the exploitation of the Voyevoda missiles, the armed forces will have about 150 silo launchers of such a complex, which can be used to house the Sarmat products. Not all mines will receive new missiles, but a significant part of them will still remain in operation as part of the new missile systems. V. Litovkin assumes that in their number the new PC-28 will be noticeably inferior to the old P-36М2. The advantage in the number of warheads imposes some restrictions on the number of deployed missiles. In formulating such plans, limitations of existing international treaties should be taken into account, taking into account both land missile systems and systems of sea or air basing.

According to several reports of industry, the military and the media, to date, the SRC them. Makeeva and related organizations performed the bulk of the design work on the Sarmat theme. Moreover, a prototype rocket had already been manufactured for use in throwing trials. However, the first stage of inspections has not yet begun, which leads to a noticeable shift in the timing of the implementation of various works. So, in the middle of the summer it was claimed that the OCR "Sarmat" was several months behind the established schedule.

According to reports, by the end of last fall, the industry completed the production of the cast prototype of the PC-28 rocket. Until the end of 2015, this product was planned to be used in tests. The tests at the end of 2015 were soon canceled, and the first test run was moved to the spring 2016 of the year. However, a few weeks before a possible launch, unnamed sources in the defense industry told the press about another rescheduling. As it turned out, the mine launcher of the Plesetsk test site, which was planned to be used in tests, is not yet ready for them. The date of the first launch was moved to the second quarter of 2016.

In July of this year there were new posts on the timing. Reported some problems with the prototype engine first stage. Due to the need to correct the identified deficiencies, the throw tests of the finished prototype will be postponed to November-December. Because of this, flight tests will begin no earlier than the end of the first quarter of 2017. It was also mentioned that all problems with the launcher were successfully resolved.

According to recent reports, the first throwing tests of the prototype of the Sarmat RS-28 rocket should take place as soon as possible. Their conduct will allow the industry to continue work, resulting in the beginning of full-fledged flight design tests. Expand the mass production of new type MBRs planned by the end of the decade. Earlier it was reported that the first serial products will be transferred to the troops in 2019 year. It is possible that in the future the Sarmat project will again have to face certain difficulties, but the current pace of work directly indicates the intention of the industry and the military department to complete the project and begin rearming the Strategic Missile Forces.

Where did Litovkin go - a great "specialist" in rocket and space technology: such as 10 tons of payload per 100 tons of ICBM launch weight, and even when flying through the South Pole "at a distance of 17000 km" (probably with the aim of hitting penguins in Antarctica) laughing

This is called a suborbital trajectory.

If we take into account the fact that the United States has missile defense positional areas in Alaska and California, it turns out that a strike from the southern direction is just that.

10 tons of combat load with a starting weight of 100 tons - I do not believe !!! The mass of the rocket should be at least 200 tons when using the same fuel and advanced engines. The presence of three steps instead of two will slightly increase the firing range.

No, Mr. Operator, is it likely that this is a missile attack from South America, where the United States does not have a comprehensive missile defense? with regards to 10 (!) tons, then this is a bust of course - I think no more than 2,5 - 3 tons!

It's nice to know that our rocket scientists have made a new "Horror" for mattress makers for the next 20-25 years! Unfortunately pin..dosskie politicians can not adequately respond to the surrounding reality if they do not have a nuclear club brought by a Russian bear over their heads.
PS: The estimated speed of the warheads is particularly impressive. An object moving at a speed of 17 mach along a ballistic trajectory can even theoretically intercept only our promising air defense missile defense system S-500 (as far as I remember the information on its proposed performance characteristics, it should intercept targets moving at speeds up to 25,5 max). No other country has anything similar and close.

Yokarny Babai, how interesting! Already 60 years old people know that 1 space speed is 4 km per second. 25 speeds of sound is 8 km per second, which means 2 space. Tprruuuu, stand Serko .... I wonder again, how can this be developed in the atmosphere to speed up 8 km per second? Now about the adequacy of the American hawks ... adequately it is the same, mirror, it looks like it means all the same the hawks react adequately, accusing us of aggression, because even on the pages of the virtual magazine we threaten them with nuclear clubs.

The first space velocity is 7,9 km / s, the second is 11,2 km / s.

ICBMs are accelerated to a speed of 7 km / s; after entering the atmosphere, they are decelerated at the ground to 3-4 km / s.

            Remember badly. Repeat periodically.
Generally speaking, the warheads are knocked down not by a direct hit of some blank, but by the withdrawal and detonation of an anti-missile at a certain point in the warhead trajectory, which in turn is calculated in the center of the missile defense. From here it doesn't matter at what speed the warhead moves towards the target. It is important if it suddenly begins to deviate from the ballistic trajectory and make a maneuver that cannot be calculated, which is implemented on the tested "hypersonic" unit.

No one has explained to me the process in which arriving warheads at a speed of 17 speeds of sound are decelerated in an atmosphere in which the speed of sound increases as they approach the surface of the planet, and the speed of warheads decreases. And around these braking warheads at a speed of 25 sound speeds, the S-500 missiles are spinning and spinning ... Among the independently-minded population there is a strong belief that all the "education - intellectuals" of the whole world for money (grants) are engaged in a fool like retelling and quoting each other, and all the nonsense of schizo minds like the theory of relativity, rewarding each other with prizes and scientific degrees.

I consider the main feature of the new generation of strategic missiles, using maneuvering warheads, the possibility of a deceitful maneuver when the aiming point of a ballistic trajectory can be anything outside the United States, but at a decisive moment the warheads change their trajectory and suddenly fall on Americans' heads. Remember the 4 minutes mentioned by Clintonih? The rocket needs to fly to the states for about 25 minutes, +/-. And if they will fly 22, +/-, minutes in the direction of Panama or Colombia will the states give the command to start their nuclear forces? I doubt it. And in the last 4 minutes of the flight, the BB is sharply redirected to launchers in the states ... And that’s all, you can cover the ground arsenal right in the mines, which will require at least 400 high-precision BBs.
    1. +3
      27 October 2016 23: 16
Maneuvering BBs maneuver only after entering the atmosphere with a lateral deviation of the order of 10 km and with a range deviation of the order of 100 km. The purpose of BB maneuvering is to avoid missile defense.

The flight time of the BB to the target is on the order of 35-40 minutes, of which about a minute is spent on descent in the atmosphere at a speed from 7 km / s (at the beginning) to 3 km / s (at the end).

The decision to launch missiles in return is made both by Russia and the United States on the basis of SPRN data on a massive missile attack by the enemy (10 or more missiles) during an active section of the missile trajectory in the first 5-10 minutes after launch. In this case, the coordinates of the targets hit, as well as the possibility of re-targeting the BB in the final section of the trajectory, are not taken into account.

Whoever shoots first in one gulp, rather than single missiles, is on horseback.

Maybe they have a program for the long-term development of engines for these missiles? Or is there a general concept of constructing such new engines on justifiably more effective operating principles? Then what is the seriousness?

Does it make sense to make more missiles, with a reduced number of warheads and increased means of breaking through missile defense?

And the number of deployed media is unlimited?

So, on October 24, the TASS news agency published an article “Terrible“ Sarmat ”: the Voevody’s heir will overcome any missile defense system”, in which military observer Viktor Litovkin announced his assessments of the appearance and characteristics of the RS-28. He recalled that the starting weight of a new rocket could be at the level of 100 tons with an abandoned mass of 10 tons.

And Viktor Litovkin is aware that by definition of contracts A heavy missile is a missile that has a launch or throw weight greater than that of the heaviest of light missiles. And this missile UR-100N UTTH ?? That is, starting more than 106 tons - heavy, less - light. And the difference in terms of rocket 100 ton class и 100 ton rocket he understands?

    V. Litovkin claims that the RS-28 product will be able to send warheads to a range of about 17 thousand km against 10 thousand km from Voevoda ..

That the Voevoda really flew 10000 km versus 17000 for the Sarmat (which has never flown before) ??
In fact, "Voevoda" flew 11000 km with a MIRV, and 16000 km with a monoblock
So all the constructions in range from Litovkin are far-fetched

The divisible warhead of the Sarmat, in his opinion, will be able to carry at least a dozen warheads with individual guidance.

And what is his opinion based on? Is he familiar with the texts of the Treaties?

The TASS article also mentions that the media have already published a possible designation of a promising hypersonic warhead: such a product is called the U-71.

And the complex is called 15P771. And how does all this fit in with the notation adopted by the MO?

Also in the article “Terrible“ Sarmat ”: the heir of the“ Voivode ”will overcome any missile defense system, approximate estimates of the quantitative aspects of the upcoming rearmament of the Strategic Missile Forces are given. It is alleged that after the Voyevoda missiles are no longer operational, the armed forces will have about 150 silo launchers of such a complex that can be used to deploy Sarmat products

And nothing that "Voevod" was deployed from 83 to 88 units? Of course when deployed 88 complexes when they are removed from service will remain 150 mines ....

Because of this, flight design tests will begin no earlier than the end of the first quarter of 2017.

However, the Ministry of Defense does not know that Litovkin is going to start Lee in early 2017. And there were no applications for insurance of Saromat launches in 2017

Such articles are not a disaster for Litovkin. This is the trouble of all journalism.
After all, now in the era of tyrnet two things are important - the speed of information delivery, and "importance".

heptyl was replaced by for example tetramethyl and increased energy by 5% .... It is unlikely that anyone would turn
attention to such an article ... And if he does, then how many chemists among them will twist their fingers around the temple.
And the "journalists" who read this article will immediately advertise everything to - "new wunderfawl", "RIP and
ANNOUNCEMENT OF SCIENTISTS "," UNDERSTANDING ANALOGUES "," THREAT OF A MENT-FREE WORLD "..... Continue?
And the overwhelming majority is modern journalism. And the metamorphosis of this disease - "journalism"
expand in both breadth and breadth.
A year and a half ago, I lay down on a hospital bed - I reread everything with pleasure with pleasure. And the closer to today
time, the more articles - about nothing from a parallel world.

By the way, my friend, the late engineer-instructor accompanied him. By the way, the roar of diesel engines over 10 km is heard as if several Mi8s are flying somewhere nearby.

Why remember him? The media have already skimmed the information "cream" from him, while he is not interesting. After all, design is still at an early stage

About 1992. Since 1992, it has not been withdrawn from service, and the EMNIP has ceased to regularly go on patrol routes. Removed from combat duty and disbanded them much later. The 10th division (Kostroma) was disbanded in 2005, the 36th (Krasnoyarsk) in 2002, the 52nd (Perm) in 2002. Regiments disbanded sometimes later than divisions

Hello, I haven't read you for a long time - as always, acute questions (this is your strong point)! "Sarmat" is really good, the interest in it is understandable. however, no one canceled the secrecy - forewarned, then armed, and the chatterbox is a godsend for a spy? Vladimir, you are a very erudite person in the field of rocketry, be careful in your judgments! This is my friendly advice to you! Konstantin.

Thanks for the opinion and for the warning, Konstantin, but I rely only on open sources in my judgments. Moreover, on those where there are no "roughness" in relation to the neck and tolerances.
Just for many, what is elementary for others is a global discovery.
An example of the same SARMAT is very typical. "Talking heads", such as the deputy minister of defense, declares that it has a launch weight of 100 tons, and to the enemy he can deliver a "gift" weighing 10 tons both through the North and South Poles. And everyone begins to applaud in unison, declaring that this "has no analogues in the world."
Instead of asking themselves the question, is this so? The main thing is that someone from the "top" should say. It immediately becomes the ultimate truth.
And in such cases they do not ask questions.
    1. And can there be such a ratio of cast and starting weight?
    2. How much can the following increase in this ratio?
    3. How much of the thrown weight is taken by warheads?
And other such questions. Elementary questions, but answering which you can get answers different from those that are broadcast to us. Well and so on. And such answers can be obtained even without many data that are sometimes classified

I agree with you - stupidity sometimes touches and amuses from the heart! So let's laugh, Friends! But sometimes you have to pay very dearly for "laughing through tears" and someone else's stupidity? You are a serious person and erudite, but I ask you, take this article "lightly", just laugh and forget about it, for this is BSK.

Thanks again for the warning, but I'm very careful about that. You probably noticed that I almost never detail the indices of the parts of the technique, especially the one up there. Since in one designation system these indices are open and are found in dozens of sources. But in another system, charge designations - HZ, seem to occur, but it is better not to risk it (for most products). Therefore, I try not to touch them. And relative to another. This is sometimes just physics and knowledge of contractual restrictions.

Everything is correct. There are no miracles. Therefore, the analogy of Sarmat with the UR-100N UTTH, and not with the Voevoda, suggests itself. From Stiletto you have to "dance".

So to speak. What we are told logically and technically impossible. But the most interesting thing is that in the early stages, when a bunch of full-time analysts and the deputy minister had not yet talked about this, it was always about a HEAVY ROCKET OF THE HUNDRED CLASS, and not about a 100-ton rocket. And this will agree two different things.
A 100-tonne initially cannot be heavy, but a 100-tonne class can. The starting mass of such a rocket lies in the range of 106-199 tons.
But even in this case, 10 tons of cast weight is prohibitive. Well, etc. There are still many inconsistencies

In the "Sarmat" project, he is somewhat alarmed by the SIGNIFICANTLY reduced capabilities for range and throw weight ... In simple terms, "I change the bull to an Indyka." Too inadequate replacement ... But apparently at this stage, the capabilities of Russian industry (largely destroyed by the own efforts of the "Russians") are the ultimate dreams of designers. God grant that this is enough to prevent a catastrophe ...

The mass of the rocket is -160 tons, PN-10 tons, the number of warheads is up to 15, but certainly not 10 ....

Sarmat ICBM is to replace the Voevoda R-36M2 missile, and its payload will reach 10 tons against its predecessor's 8,75. "--- Who’s come up with such nonsense? What? Sarmat will be 100 tons in weight but will lift weight is more than 200 ton Voyevoda’s rocket? Che invented antigrave in the Russian Federation? or a zero element or maybe the rocket will be on antimatter? There are simply no other options without violating the laws of physics! So don’t lie about Sarmat’s greater throwing weight, no one in the Russian Federation has sound mind believe that they were able to surpass the achievements of the USSR Alas, ah, the Russian Federation in 2017 is technically behind the USSR in 1980, we no longer have normal technical specialists, all that is old people who have been educated in the USSR, those that are now graduated in the Russian Federation are laughter and alas, they, alas, are not able to at least repeat the achievements of the USSR We had a R-39 rocket for nuclear submarines, a shark created in the USSR, the Russian Federation tried to saw something similar for new nuclear submarines, it turned out to be a mace - much inferior to the old Soviet era Kete R-39. The same will happen with Sarmat, Sarmat is a land mace, it will be created with the same suffering, most likely and certainly be inferior to the Soviet ICBMs, for the current Russian Federation is a thieves corrupt government where 99% of all bureaucrats keep all their money in the west long ago moved to the west and didn’t give a damn about Russia, such a country CANNOT even theoretically achieve something good, there is no BASIC basis for this. PS: And yes, if the articles are written brainless here without knowing anything, then I have to tell the truth. TTX Sarmatian: Own Weight: 100-110 tons The thrown weight: 4-4.5 tons. Everything is about 2 times worse than the RS-36M "Satan" created in the USSR almost 50 years ago. Half a century ago ... all the same, the USSR today is more and more clearly seen as a highly developed dead civilization whose scientific and technical achievements excite the mind and delight retarded modern scientists.

I read this. And the mood for the evening is ruined. (

Again postponement, what was needed yesterday is postponed indefinitely! And so, not only in the rocket industry, it seems that everything will be done after 2020, if we live to see this “golden” future!
